I worked at Kessler Collection part-time

    Pros

I worked at the Grand Bohemian Hotel Orlando in the F&B department. It was a great environment to work in with friendly and fun coworkers. The experience polished my professionalism and has been a great tool in getting future interviews and jobs. There are plenty of opportunities to move up or move around if you prove you have the right attitude and work ethic (because I was so eager to learn I was cross-trained for 9 different positions in less than a year!)

    Cons

This is a luxury boutique hotel chain that caters to a high-profile clientele. There are strict rules and processes for our everyday routines that are set in place by Kessler and their partner Marriott. If you aren't one for following rules or holding yourself to high standards, than this isn't the place for you. Also, working in F&B your schedule will always be unpredictable.

    Pros

Great easy hours. Interaction with guests, employees, and other persons on a regular basis. Good pay and back up from HR staff.

    Cons

Dealing with guests in a manner other than how corporate would prefer. Getting pushed over by management.

    Advice to Management

Allow experienced security to run security. Do not allow management to step in unless needed.

I have been working at Kessler Collection full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The building is pretty. The hotel stays occupied most of the year.

    Cons

Terrible corporate managment. It seems they come up with terrible ideas based on no reasearch whatsoever. Than insist on sticking to the bad ideas after they clearly are failing. They do not hire experienced managers..thwy hire "soldiers" or people aillingto be come YES people.. Clones if you will...the kind that are happy to keep on keeping on with concept the guests hate. The managment rarely even interact with the guest unless the guest is extremely unhappy. But even in that case its near impossible to locate one. They never ask or listen to the employees suggestions. After all we are the ones that know what the guest like or dont like. We hear it every day. The so called GPs are very under appreciated and treated unequally. Some gp are held to stamdards and others can do as they please. All the women leaders in the st. Augustine kessler are condescending and talk to the employees like children. The men are just weak and inexperienced. They would know how to make a schedule if there lives depended on it. Until i find a better job.. I dream of the day that they realize the custo.ers comingto an extravagant resprt expect an extravagant restaurant... Not tapas and cheap white leather. I smile all day and y
Tryto be the best I can but after years of managment turn over and being treated with zero respect. . I had to atleast warn future applicant of what youre walking into.

    Advice to Management

Corporate should hire leaders with more experience and a little more "balls" . and the managers that currently work there should speak to the gps like adults and not like children. And maybetake some management courses. Also... We appreciate respect and understanding and good benefits more than bravo cards and someone walking aou dpassing out candy.. This is real life. Not preschool.

I have been working at Kessler Collection full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Beautiful setting near great restaurants and nightlife.

    Cons

Management unappreciative of hard-working employees. Employee rewards system is a joke-it is hard to earn any decent rewards, unless you like cheap plastic dishes.
Management make no effort to fix recurring problems. Hotel OS and printers are constantly down.
Housekeeping and front desk areas chronically understaffed. Scheduling is poorly done and hotel occupancy is not taken into account when making schedules. Budget concerns are far more important than guest service and staff well-being.
The hotel takes advantage of the international interns system for the tax break. The interns are only on the job for a year so they never have to increase the wages. There interns aren't given the instruction and training that should be a part of their experience in the US. They are simply stuck in the job for a year and left to it.
Front desk managers give preferential treatment to some staff and treat others like dirt. If you're not 'in the club', you won't be valued. Your ideas and concerns are not listened to, you are not treated well. Step one foot wrong and they come down hard on you, while others get away with murder.
Management claims to 'care' about employees, as long as you don't bring any personal concerns to work, ever.

    Advice to Management

Better rewards program. Pay employees what they are worth based on their experience. Listen to your employees ideas, concerns, personal problems, job woes. If you don't care, you shouldn't be in management.

I have been working at Kessler Collection (Less than a year)

    Pros

The Kessler Collection is not only a fantastic place to work but an inspiring place, as well. Every day you are surrounded by motivators, innovators and leaders who encourage you to become the best Grand Performer you can be. The hotel is your stage and to the company you are not just another "employee," you are a Grand Performer who comes to work every day and leaves the day with a standing ovation for your performance.

The company also has properties all over the country (FL, GA, AL, CO, SC, NC) - and they do a lot of internal promotions.

I have loved my time at the Kessler Collection and encourage you to apply for open positions - the company culture is unlike any other hotel brand out there!

    Cons

There are no major cons working here.

I have been working at Kessler Collection full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Marriott benefits, they promote from within, ability to innovate, get creative, suggest ideas. growing company and lots of opportunity to grow your career. There is a great atmosphere of fun but get it done at the same time. Lots of opportunity to gain feedback through performance review process, and 90 day reviews given. weekly meetings with dept heads allows more feedback and pulse checks to happen. annual increases issued. bonus for many salary positions. "job coach" program is very good and shows investment in a new hire during their first week. Kessler invests in its grand performers and there is also a "kessler cares program" which helps its ownemployees when needed and also the local community. When there are poor performers, they are willing to push them out if it is best for the whole. their employee engagement survey results as a company (done yearly), put them at the top of the hospitality industry.

    Cons

every company has negatives and to think that there aren't any when interviewing is naive. Take the negative feedback on this site for what it is...mainly from ex-employees. Your ideas are heard, but don't be hurt if corporate or your managers don't agree with your opinion. That isn't always going to be the case. Corporate does have the family run feel but they do a great job as they are very skilled and knowledgeable about what they do. as they have grown they are also expanding their corporate office with hospitality professionals. this is good!

    Advice to Management

keep listening to your employees, meet with them weekly or monthly. Corporate should stay in touch with their hotels and department heads. listen to them as they are running the hotels. you put them in place so trust them! Keep up the great work and continue to promote from within. you are building and growing grand performers that will bleed kessler and continue to help build a strong foundation for the growing company.

    Pros

Marriott relationship provided a good model for how the business should be run. You knew your employment with the company would be short. Besides management employees cared for each other.

    Cons

Leadership had no respect for the employees. You could be fired for any reason without notice. Issues within the family filtered down to the employees. Unethical on many levels.

    Advice to Management

Understand that your success has been a result of the hard working employees at the company and not any talent you think you may possess.

    Pros

Kessler has a wonderful collection of boutique hotels throughout the country. They are awe inspiring properties on the outside!

    Cons

Extremely strict uniform and personal grooming standards.
Lack of leadership from internal upper management.
HR makes up the rules as it goes.
Funnels money to new builds from existent properties which results in capital problems at those existing properties.

    Advice to Management

Hire staff who are passionate about your brand.
