Great environment for learning, growth, and collaboration
Apr 3, 2020 - Anonymous Employee in Woodinville, WARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
From day 1 of working here I have felt supported and encouraged by management and my peers. The culture is unlike any other company I have worked for - positive and respectful yet still fun and uplifting. The company takes its time to make sure that new hires will contribute positively to the culture. I have always felt like I could take care of anything happening in my personal life without being judged or pressured. In fact, whenever anyone needs to take care of something, their teammates step in and help out. It's a good feeling to know that employees are truly valued as #1 and it encourages everyone to work hard. You won't see anyone slacking off here. While nobody is necessarily cracking the whip, there's a sense of real teamwork that arises naturally. If you're a hard worker and like to add value with it being appreciated, this is the type of environment you'll thrive in. Management and leadership of LDC really listens to their employees. At least once a year, every single employee has a chance to provide feedback at the annual strategy sessions, which shapes corporate and department goals for the next year. Additionally, managers have always made time to listen to concerns or ideas when they arise. So many great ideas brought up by individuals have been implemented over the years. The CEO Frank Lemos is an inspiring leader with a huge heart for his team and his community. Frank has a really strong vision, eye for detail, and drive for success. He is very involved in the community and it shows both through his personal involvement and how he leads the company to participate in various events and charitable programs. He is the type of leader and partner you can depend on. Mark Villwock, VP, is also a great leader and an amazing engineer. The engineers look up to his expertise and enjoy working alongside him. There is no shortage of learning opportunities with a mentor like Mark. I could keep going on about all the great things about this company. I'll list off a few more things that stand out to me about LDC: * The company is great at organizing fun events for people to come together outside of work (picnics, holiday parties, anniversary parties, barbecues) * All the department managers, including HR and recruiting, are really pleasant to work with * The company is great at making sure people are taken care of, so if you need something you can ask for it * They support continuing education * They encourage people to set strong personal goals and will work with you to get you where you want to be, even if that might require switching departments Working here has moved me forward in my career more than I could have imagined.
Cons
One of the challenges in growing rapidly is continuously making adjustments to account for changes. LDC has been growing from a small company to a mid-sized company, which is encouraging (we want growth!) and also comes with its own set of challenges (change can be difficult). The fact is that every company has things they are continuously improving upon. It's how the company approaches those things that makes the difference. I've been impressed with how LDC handles new challenges. Management has always been open to coming up with solutions and creating new processes where needed.

Project Manager
Jul 18, 2017 - Project Manager in Woodinville, WARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
The best reasons to work at LDC are the people. The Engineers, Surveyors, Planners, Technicians at LDC are bright, driven, and committed to company success and your own. Everyone is committed to doing their best, and stepping in/up to help out when things are over-busy. LDC staff has grown a lot in the last few years and that has really helped to create a work environment where workload is shared. The work variety is great with SF residential, multi-family, commercial/multi-use, multi-story, medical, industrial, etc. Also, for a small firm its amazing how significant LDC's footprint is among state and regional organizations, like Master Builder Association, and Department of Ecology (Stormwater/Water Quality), Phase 1 jurisdictions, ADA advisory, etc. It has been my experience that LDC has a great reputation wherever they work, which is nearly every review jurisdiction and district within the Puget Sound region. LDC includes in its services, Engineering, and planning, but includes internal Survey, Structural which allows LDC to provide more complete service and allows LDC to move/respond quickly. LDC also has a strong telecommunications group, which provides opportunity for exposure to that business sector, and some additional variety.
Cons
As a smaller and growing firm, LDC has only a small percentage of its work that is associated with Public/Municipal contracts or Capital Improvement programs. LDC is growing and wants to expand into hat sector, but is still largely dependent on private development.

Pros
There is a true, genuine team environment at LDC. It exemplifies the concept that the strength of the whole is better than the individual alone, and that passion for teamwork is especially evident during busy periods where everyone pitches in. Clay White, the principal planner, is a supportive leader that genuinely cares about the people he leads, personally and professionally. There is a lot of room for professional growth in areas where planning and development overlap and there is tremendous support from upper management for seeking out new opportunities and growing the business. There is also strong support for professional involvement and taking an active role in the industry. The company has an eye on the future and is not just planning for today, but thinking about the LDC of the future. I truly believe the future is very bright for LDC.
Cons
As with any growing company, there are growing pains and lessons learned. LDC has grown from just a few employees to a mid-sized company in a short time, and the company is working hard to build its infrastructure to support that growth. There is some ambiguity on roles and responsibilities, but leadership looks for people who will step up and take charge on improving those areas and are supportive of thoughts and ideas from employees on how to make things better or more efficient.

A wonderful place to work, learn, and grow in your career!
Mar 3, 2020 - Chief of Parties in Woodinville, WARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Competitive wages. Fantastic benefits. Ownership that takes pride and joy in the well being of the company as well as their employees. Training and after hours mentorship program. Frequent company events to build teamwork, comradery, and a chance to socialize outside of the daily grind. Annual meetings with the ownership for EVERY employee to discuss ways to improve and better each department. Multiple charity outreach programs to better the community. When problems arise everybody from the field chainmen to the president of the company will roll up their sleeves and dig deep to come up with a solution. A company that demonstrates consistently professionalism, integrity and pride!
Cons
Due to size of company versus amount of workload brought in company is typically running slightly understaffed. Finding and keeping quality employees with the right attitude and mentality to push the limits and standards of our industry.

Pros
LDC is a great small engineering company that prides itself on fulfilling its logo, "Engineering Above the Standard." Colleagues are all top-rate, and you always feel like you are surrounded by smart people. You also get paid for hours over 40/wk even when salaried, which is a definite plus when you often have long-ish work weeks.
Cons
It can be hard to get to know your coworkers, and I'd say it takes about 6 months to really get people warmed up to talking with you on a more regular basis. Salaries may start lower than industry standards, but they are also willing to help you grow in your career.

Oct 10, 2018 - CAD Manager in Woodinville, WARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
LDC is a great company that thrives on producing the highest quality of work. There is a high level of respect from top down which helps contribute to the positive team atmosphere. I have personally known the president of the company for 18+ years and we have had a great and strong working relationship from day 1. Management is more than willing to provide the necessary tools to improve efficiency and productivity. They are continually exploring new and innovative ways to separate LDC from the competition. It really makes for a fun and exciting place to work.
Cons
With the growth and expansion of LDC, it has been difficult to find talented and strong candidates to employ

Pros
Upper management is great at working with you to help you achieve success within the company and in your overall development. They care about your work/home life balance and each quarter the entire company engages in charitable community outreach programs such as toys for tots and a food drive. Flex work hours are available for individuals who qualify and you get a decent amount of vacation time starting out.
Cons
N/A- any concerns you may have are handled and taken into consideration from the management staff. The management really cares about creating a work environment that works for everyone and is open to reasonable suggestions when asked.
