I worked at MHRA full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Pension and Civil Service Learning

    Cons

Slow paced bureaucracy, reluctant to change with meetings for the sake of meetings.

    Advice to Management

Review the competency of managers and get rid of 'dead wood'. Reduce the number of meetings to those that are going to be beneficial.

I have been working at MHRA full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good pension scheme, compensation is tied to public sector. Decent benefits

    Cons

Senior Management team is in disarray and a huge amount of turnover to industry

    I worked at MHRA full-time

    Pros

Good place to learn regulatory affairs and great colleagues to work with.

    Cons

Government bureaucracy slows everything down. Staff don't feel looked after well.

    Advice to Management

To be open minded and not be afraid of making decisions.

I worked at MHRA full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Location if you get the train to Victoria - straight out of the back of the station and only couple of minutes walk
    Building is nice
Very difficult to think of any pros

    Cons

    Paternal and backward management
    Not willing to tackle problems
No reward for working really long hours and going above and beyond what was required. It was a really awful experience working there which caused me to be ill

    Advice to Management

    Sort yourselves out

    I worked at MHRA full-time

    Pros

You work within the agency. Civil service pension

    Cons

I felt that there was an absolutely terrible atmosphere, and perceived a real "if your face fits" mentality. In my opinion promotion was not based on merit. I am aware of a lot of people that left as a result of the atmosphere.

    Advice to Management

The SMT need to take a hard long look at what is going on and work out why people are leaving.

    Pros

Great place....particularly for diversity of regulatory and scientific work to deal with. A lot to learn on the regulatory front. Flexible as well (up to 3 days from working home).

    Cons

Salary/career progression limited after reaching Senior grade. It can become an issue as salary increases only 1% a year...therefore people, good people, are obliged to leave.

Bonuses (if/when you get one...good luck!) are a joke really! Very little money in comparison with the private sector.

    Advice to Management

Try to convey a strong and clear message to Ministers to review MHRA salaries and highlighting the need of retaining highly skilled staff. Recruitment (e.g. up to 9 posts currently advertised for junior assessors) to address this issue of skilled Senior assessors leaving the Agency is not the way forward...

    Learn from previous mistakes.

I have been working at MHRA (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good on the CV. Government bonuses. Flexible working hours. Pay is quite good. Location and transfer ability of skills. Wide variety of work mates and educations.

    Cons

Temporary contract so no job security. seems as if there is little to no ability to climb the ladder to better employment opportunities.

I worked at MHRA full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

MHRA provides Flexible work timings, understanding managers, great new office and a comfortable work enviornment

    Cons

Internal promotions are rare and we have to apply to any openings rather than be directly recommended for promotion

    Advice to Management

The management is really good and always helpful. You may find the usual odd incident but overall it is a pleasant place to work.
