Pros

- Robots - Dog-friendly workplace - Excellent health benefits (Ok, now for the real review) When I started at Modular Robotics, I was a little bit worried about the "startup" vibe, knowing that often people are asked to work insane hours and never take vacation for fear of being labeled not a team player. It's not like that here at all. The open-ended vacation and flexible schedule is the /real thing/. Sure, some weeks are busier than others. Sometimes you have to work a weekend for a trade show or go out of town for a conference, but this is honestly the best work-life balance I've ever had in my career. On top of that, I can say I genuinely enjoy all of my coworkers. My favorite day to come to work is Friday, when we all gather around the one big table for lunch to swap stories and make each other laugh. While it's true that we're often asked to "wear many hats", this is a positive for me, as now I have skills on my resume I never would have gotten in a more rigidly defined role. To work here, you do have to be comfortable with change, and comfortable with defining your own work flows and schedules. This isn't a natural fit for everyone! Everyone here is dedicated to the mission: helping kids learn. On top of that, everyone is genuinely enthusiastic about the product we make. Management is transparent with where we are as a company and what our goals are, both in the long-term and the short-term. Plus, they're easy to track down and talk to.

Cons

- Like others mentioned, I'd love a 401k option. - As a company reinventing its identity and processes, there are some breakdowns in communications that are being worked through. While this can be frustrating at times, senior management has been good at taking feedback and enthusiastic about making more efficient processes. These breakdowns have not been anything I've not experienced at other workplaces, and frankly, management has reacted with more flexibility than those other jobs.

What could be better than working for a company that makes little robots?!

Pros

Modular Robotics makes Cubelets which are robot blocks that teach kids about problem solving, critical thinking, engineering design, and complexity. They are fun and I have never met a kid that doesn't love them!! So that in itself is a huge perk. Working with educators and helping them figure out how they can use these tools to make their classrooms more fun and engaging is another huge perk. Working with a group of 15 smart, cool, savvy coworkers who all bring something different to the table and genuinely care about each is also a benefit of working at this company. There are game nights, holiday themed movie nights, Friday lunches and a variety of other activities where people stay after work to hang out because we all like each other THAT much. Everyone is expected to work hard but in general hours are flexible. If you need to work 7-4 one day or 8-6 another, leave for a doctors appointment or head out for another personal reason as long as you are dedicated and getting your work done no one will question it. We also get unlimited time off and it is a company where this is not a perk they dangle in front of you but you can't afford to take off, everyone takes the time they need. In fact we typically are excited as our coworkers get to travel all over the world and bring those experiences back with them. It is nice to work for a small company where everyone has a voice and as an employee everything you do daily helps contribute to the success of the company.

Cons

As a growing company things change rather quickly and sometimes we are all still trying to figure out the best way to accomplish our goals. So that means that you have to be adaptable to change. We are still working on structure and systems so you have to be able to adapt quickly, give suggestions, and be able to contribute. There is a level of jump head first into the deep end that happens here. It is a small company so some of the perks like 401K or HSA don't exist but hopefully as the company continues to grow those things will be offered.
