I worked at Magellan Midstream full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Very conservative company which protects it in tough energy times (like 2015-16). But limits everything, including careers & salaries, when energy industry in booming.

Generally good people but strong good 'ol boy network exists. Pay and benefits are competitive but some departments/leaders are stagnet with no change or growth.

    Cons

Ultra-conservative approach to everything can be extremely frustrating andsoul-crushing at times. I heard somebody use the analogy of "an old gray battleship that takes forever to change direction" but is dependable and stable. I think that fits.

Very limited upward mobility unless you're in 'the club'. Almost no employee development/training, especially if it costs money.

Management is not proactive about anything. Virtually everything done is reactive.

    Advice to Management

Break up 'the club' and get some fresh people with a fresh perspective.

I worked at Magellan Midstream (Less than a year)

    Pros

Benefits are superb and compensation is fair.

    Cons

The company works on a shoestring budget, lacks long term vision because safety is seriously neglected and overlooked, although they say do different. I've seen serious "pencil whipping" going on, even prior to a DOT audit. No care for regulations, constantly violating EPA ruling.
Don't work here, Managers are horrible people, cronyism is rampant.

    Advice to Management

Do what you say you do.

    Pros

Great hands off management. They give you a project and who to schedule in to work.

    Cons

No time off. No PTO. No Sick leave.

    Advice to Management

Be nicer to your contract inspectors. We need vacations and PTO.

I have been working at Magellan Midstream full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    I can work at my own pace. I'm not stuck behind a desk. I have input and am allowed to provide direction for the projects that are required for my location.;

    Cons

For long term employees, the actual salary is low when considering the technical knowledge that is required. The benefits are adequate. However, the relocation packages for a senior employee is below adequate.

    Advice to Management

Certain positions require more knowledge than others, even though the positions are titled the same. Your technical employees are underpaid and I believe quality employees in this line are minimal and seek other positions with higher pay.
Also, the relocation packages need to be dramatically enhanced for senior employees.

I worked at Magellan Midstream full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Magellan is a good company to work for. Good compensation and annual bonus, plus they have a traditional pension plan, which is rare these days.

    Cons

Since Magellan was spun off from Williams back in late 2003/2004, there are limited career opportunities for growth, given that many employees took 2 or 3 levels of demotion to stay employed.

    Advice to Management

Keep growing and offer more benefits / stocks options to all employees.
