    Pros

The best thing about this company was yearly rate increases for the management team, although it was small, they were consistent in awarding it every year I was there.

    Cons

Micromanagement to a fault. Became a check the box, run type organization, leaving leaders unable to invest in growing their teams. Once you obtain good results, you were realigned and have to start over again with another bunch of poor performing locations. Consistently added more and more stores on DMs, as turnover continued, and was very slow to hire replacements....so double the work without any extra incentive or pay. I would avoid this organization at all costs if you are a leader who cares about your employees and knows the value you bring to the table, as it will go unappreciated.

    Advice to Management

Stop micromanaging and allow your talented employees to do the job the way that works best.

    Pros

Being employed at a business like Mapco Express you have opportunities to meet new people and form relationships. The work force is good but under appreciated and over worked.

    Cons

Where do you begin. You can start with New Owner but same old results. They don't know how to manage stores and store employees and it shows when you visit one and if you read the other reviews. Promotions there are none unless you are an ex-Ruby Tuesday employee no one in this company gets promoted. Basically this has become Ruby Tuesday's with Fuel Dispensers. You need to be part of there GOOD OLE BOY RUBY TUESDAY CLUB!

    Advice to Management

Promote within. Listen to new ideas from employees who actually have a good idea.

I worked at Mapco Express full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I got to meet a lot of new people. I learned a lot about the company and received the management experience.

    Cons

Salary is too low for the amount of work required of the store managers. Store manager is required to work 50 hours a week but if an employee calls out of work the store manager is stuck working the shift. The company offers no additional pay for salaried employees. There is a monthly bonus incentive but you have to be able to meet metrics that are often unobtainable.

    Pros

    They will give you work.

    Cons

They over work people, they say they promote from within the company but they usually get managers outsourced and then have the csls train them instead of promoting the CSLs who have been at that store and know how everything operates. The pay is not worth the headache. They add a bunch of workload with a small labor budget. Training is not that well, they don't appreciate the people that are willing to commit to the company!

    Advice to Management

Train your CSLs to become managers that way you will have mapco loyalty and won't have to pay outsourced managers to go through "training".

I worked at Mapco Express part-time

    Pros

They have lots of customers that come to the store everyday like clock work with a smile or funny joke to share while they grabbed their morning coffee. The manager of our store Jennifer was very friendly and approachable and made me feel comfortable and valued from the start.The. few members of the staff that actually stayed on like Shelby, and Jim were likewise hardworking, friendly and did make an effort daily to make it pleasant for the customers and staff.

    Cons

Hands down turnover, poor Jen had a few that stuck with the company. Those few along with her worked sometimes round the clock just to keep the store open. And it does not reflect on any of those staff members about the turnover,a couple were fired for being way less then professional when talking to some customers and Jen had no choice to do it.The rest of the issue at that time was nobody wanted to work 3rd shift. But the other thing is this company offers absolutely no benefits zero incentives and really just puts of a clear message of store based employes are expendable and not worthy of it.The most valuable part of the Mapco Company I could see was the few loyal staff they were lucky to have in it.

    Advice to Management

Value your employees, from the ground up.There is no good reason at the present moment to ever see any opportunity in a long term career with your company.

    Pros

Was lucky to have a great store manager. There are no other pros to wasting your life in a convenience store.

    Cons

Working by yourself, EVERYDAY. Not being granted meal periods. Not being able to use the bathroom until the store is empty and you can lock the door. Being verbally and sexually harassed by disgusting perverted men DAILY, both in person and on the phone. Being degraded and treated like a child by irate customers as well as upper management. And the largest con is being paid a measly $8/hr to go through this daily.

    Advice to Management

Do better. Be better. Create a positive environment for team members. Show kindness and appreciation to those who do the brunt of the work to make you look good.

    Pros

Interacting with customers and vendors serving the community with their daily coffee and soda needs, my crew was like a family.

    Cons

As with all companies there is drama within the building and within the company itself but as long as you don't associate with it you're good

I worked at Mapco Express part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Newer establishment, fast paced, meet lots of people, ability to improve on speed and efficiency, fairly flexible schedule.

    Cons

Upper management too busy implementing whatever corporate wanted at the time, CSL seemed to not feel appreciated by management so they would talk and act poorly.

    Advice to Management

Keep your ears to the ground and your eyes open. Make sure the little things are working so your staff does not have to deal with issues while they are trying their best to serve the customers. Make a no cell phone while at work policy (it is ridiculous how many employees eyes are glued to their cell phone the majority of shift. How rude and unprofessional. Stop that behavior managers, make it a rule. Customer in store - NO CELL PHONES.
