    Operate lean corporate teams

    Advice to Management

Continue to foster your employees development as it made a world of difference for me as a leader, I had more confidence and felt supported to take risks and try new things

    Pros

Company cares about it's employees and strives to ensure steady growth. Lots of long term employees, as well as good opportunities for growth.

    Cons

Takes a lot of time to change direction, over processes decisions at times. Works too lean at times and doesn't always make head count decisions until an individual is impacted.

    Advice to Management

Try not to run too lean to prevent burn out.

I worked at McGrath RentCorp (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Respect. Opportunity. Quarterly bonus is mostly consistent at 10 % of pay. 2-wk vacation to start. Quarterly reviews were mostly constructive. Frequent all-hands meetings and meals. Coworkers are usually very supportive. Pay is comparable to central valley standards, not SF bay standards.

    Cons

Watch for both written and unwritten expectations. Day-to-day tasks are no excuse for not meeting Quarterly goals or project objectives. Doing your best may not be good enough and lead to sudden dismissal. Loyalty is not always valued.

    Advice to Management

Be clear on why performance is below expectations.

There are no cons that I can think of, was an employee for almost 6 years & loved the job & the company as a whole, would love to go back there & work

    Advice to Management

Keep it up - great job - caring company of employees

    Pros

Great people in the yard. And hours are decent.
They give you your own tools to work with but they will get stolen if your not careful

    Cons

    Broken tools
    LOW pay
No cover for rain. You work rain or heat or cold
Not very much room for parking
You only get raises every year. Not when you move to a new team or new position.
Unless it's in the office then you get extra pay and what not.

    Advice to Management

Treat your manual labor workers like you treat the office people pay wise manly

I worked at McGrath RentCorp full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I don't think its possible to get 25 days paid time off in many places. That was great and the firm was great about encouraging staff to take it. Global firm with great training programs and client opportunities.

    Cons

Management did not do the best job of rotating staff off of projects that did not provide much opportunities for professional development. The same story with most consulting/client service firms. The staff are simply a piece of inventory used to make revenue. It was my feeling that you wanted from your career was of little concern to management.

    Advice to Management

Attempt to work with your employees and rotate them off jobs that are simply revenue generating yet provide little to no professional development.

    Pros

They seem to responsive to moving to the next step. Outside sales recruiters are very good.

    Cons

You are not told who the decision maker is for any sales management position. Just a heads up, it's the COO believe it or not. There is not a VP of sales, Senior VP of sales or a National Sales Manager. The COO has "veto" power over any applicant.

    Advice to Management

Save people a lot of time. Have the interview with the COO first.

    Cons

They try and operate too lean making the workload unreasonable.

    Advice to Management

strive to understand the workload and the toll it places on employees.

    Pros

Considering the size of the company the pay is competitive.

    Cons

This company needs to replace it's top management. No real decisive leadership just a lot of politically correct conversation that goes no where.

    Advice to Management

Most of the people that work there are scared to offer constructive criticism, because they are afraid of retaliation. Very often you have allowed good people to be dismissed simply because they had the courage to speak up and tell the truth when asked. Shame on you.

I have been working at McGrath RentCorp full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Working for Mobile Modular Portable Storage has a lot of pro's. Branches can feel like a close knit family atmosphere. Monday through Friday with a generous amount of paid holidays, sick days and vacation.

    Cons

Our previous VP was all about what made her look good, regardless of how the employees were made to feel. I nearly quit because of her. Our new VP seems to be more positive about being a "team".
Executive team (CEO, CFO, COO,etc) are clueless to what the employees want or feel. Spend thousands of dollars for surveys to see if we're "engaged" or what our concerns are... then does nothing with the information. Our opinions do NOT matter. Anymore, it's just "do your job and go home" mentality, don't put too much thought or care into the business or how you feel. Just be a number and be happy.
Hiring within or advancements are RARE.

    Advice to Management

Stop wasting time and money on surveys if you're not going to listen or act on the findings. If you REALLY want to know how your employees feel or what they think would help the business, then simply ask.
Also, look within when promoting, instead of bringing in outsiders who have zero knowledge or want to know what our industry does.
