I worked at Metropolitan Police Service

    Pros

Great friends and loyal....old school did work

    Cons

Poor senior management...too many senior officers appear only to be concerned with their careers.Never any true support from political masters. London doesn;t deserve the police service it has.The public DONT care anymore

    Advice to Management

How do you advise those who choose to show lip service to their officers. I served for 41 years and saw the quality of senior officers diminish over the years. We have lost the 'career officers.

I worked at Metropolitan Police Service

    Pros

It is great experience of massive organization in a large city. Some random excitement but mostly painful and ponderous.

    Cons

Civilian Staff are slowly being eliminated. Police officers are being used to do jobs they never intended when they joined.

    Advice to Management

Stop being so short-sighted and money blinded.

    Pros

Teamwork, Proud, Service, Training, Mutual respect

    Cons

Middle Management unknowing about how 'the job' has altered since their day at the coal face. Ever changing performance targets & issues almost dependant on how they want to evidence their next climb up the ladder.

    Advice to Management

Listen to time served officer's on the front line.

I have been working at Metropolitan Police Service full-time for more than 9 years

    Pros

    Colleagues are loyal and supportive.

    Cons

Management make consistently poor choices, all to cut budgets. There is constant unnecessary change. Employees needs are completely disregarded and are repeatedly forced to move location and change role without warning.

    Advice to Management

Promotion system is based on making change, which leads to constant unnecessary and ill-thought out changes, resulting in disastrous consequences for staff but no comeback for Senior Management.

I have been working at Metropolitan Police Service full-time for more than 20 years

    Pros

Interesting and varied job, no two days the same. DC job better than PC for variety. Cheap train travel (£62 a month)

    Cons

NOT LIKE ON TV !! Regular Compulsory moves. Bosses not caring about where you live to where you work. Political football - loss of pension, no pay increases, can't strike so we are targeted more than any other public sector. Very little flexibility and told to lump it all the time. Lots of officers leaving as A) they have had enough of the above and B) They have realised that they have the skills to work elsewhere...
