    Pros

It's rewarding to know you're supporting teachers, and benefits have historically been generous (leave of all sorts, health insurance, flexible schedules in summer, retirement plan)

    Cons

Managerial and inter-departmental communication have almost disappeared, making it hard to anticipate likely member issues with technology or policy changes. Apologizing for one's organization is not exactly fun...

    Advice to Management

Realize that many people work for a nonprofit because they care! Communicate (even just top-down, if timely, is better than nothing), and use the staff knowledge available to you.

I have been working at NCTM full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Location ( but they are relocating )

The majority of the skilled, professional staff have seen the decline at NCTM and have moved on...sad

    Cons

    Layoffs
    Morale
    Sloppy Work
Outsourced ( too many departments )
Membership recruitment is in the tank , due to poor management .

    Advice to Management

The Board needs to clean house, starting at the top.

    Pros

Good mission. It's easy to get behind what the organization stands for.
Benefits are very strong. The 403b is the best I have seen.

    Cons

Executive leadership. Too much turnover at the top. The last 2 executive directors have been horrid.
Board leadership. The immediate past president was too involved in operations.

    Advice to Management

There are good people there, but leadership does not communicate to them or empower them to do their jobs. All the layoffs have been at the junior staff level, which major change should be taking place at the top.

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at NCTM full-time

    Pros

-Prior history of being a forward thinking math education organization
    -Pre-2013 management was very supportive

    Cons

    -Not accessible via public transport
-No room for career or professional growth
-Across department staff do not like to, and will not, work together
-Senior management is stuck in 1990s while the math education field is well into 2014
-Board of Directors has no respect for office staff
    -Severly below market pay
-New management is making drastic cuts (reduce salaries, fire employees, dropping professional development services, etc.)
-Benefits far below those offered by other education NPOs such as NSTA, NCTE, etc.
    -403B fund choices continuously disappoint

    Pros

Again, great location which is right off of the 267 and Weihle avenue, SUPER nice people, nice offices, close to shopping, restaurants. GREAT benefits, they offer a 403B instead of 401k.

    Cons

Not a lot of opportunity for advancement.
