I worked at NEH for less than a year

    Pros

A great way to get aquainted with Capitol Hill and to spend a summer in Washington, D.C. I also learned a lot about the role of government agencies and the dynamics of grant-making.

    Cons

Work could be slow at some points because there are a lot of interns.

    I worked at NEH

    Pros

    - NEH community is welcoming, approachable, and full of interesting people - Work is highly substantive and can help interns 1) learn more about the nation's humanities research and 2) make important connections within the humanities - Never a dull moment - Writing/interviewing opportunities available - Proximity to the Smithsonian is a major plus

    Cons

    - A significant amount of database work. If you're interested in learning about academics and their work, though, it can be quite exciting.
