I have been working at Postmedia Network full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good salaries, good health benefits, great co-workers

    Cons

Company is really unstable, job cuts made have meant loading up remaining staff with way too much work and inferior products.

    Advice to Management

Treat the remaining employees really well as it will only get tougher to attract good talent.

I have been working at Postmedia Network full-time

    Pros

Great people with good intentions in the editorial departments.

    Cons

Bankrupt company, CEO's do not care about news quality, low resources, constant lay off and poor pay.

    Advice to Management

Good editorial content = more advertisements = revenue.

    Pros

Amazing team to work with, being able to set your own goals, constantly learning new programs and solutions

    Cons

There is a lack of training. You have to ask to learn which is okay, but you don't know what you need sometimes

    Advice to Management

Offer better training solutions to aid the staff

I worked at Postmedia Network part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Prior to the Postmedia buyout you handled many tasks in various areas, which was a great learning experience. The people were also really down to earth and a pleasure to work with. For a generalist, or someone who hasn't chosen a specification yet, it gave you many opportunities to get your hands dirty in many different areas, and there was always someone more experienced willing to share their knowledge. Management always had your back, and were actively trying to support your career development (legitimately the best management I've dealt with to date).

    Cons

Following the Postmedia buyout, things took a pretty drastic shift. Management got shifted around and all regional roles were basically demoted to Help Desk or very specific tasks. All regional services seemed to be getting centralized leading to a really interesting job becoming little more than sending off tickets to the central IT. There also seemed to be preferential treatment towards previous Postmedia IT employees. Many of them continued on or were promoted while many of the Sun Media employees who were there prior were slowly let go, or given compensation packages for stepping down.

    Advice to Management

At this point, I'm not too sure how many of the people I worked with are still there. It's likely that things are very different, however, not necessarily better.

I worked at Postmedia Network full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good people, competitive pension and medical/dental benefits, never a dull moment or a lack of opportunity to improve things.

    Cons

Average salary, difficult industry with little chance of recovery and fierce competition for local ad dollars.

    Advice to Management

Manage your 6 figure bonuses better in the public eye.

  11. "Working at Postmedia for a short contract"

    Star Star Star Star Star
    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee
    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

Plenty of opportunity to get your work published, pitch your own ideas and get a ton of hands on experience that you likely wouldn't get elsewhere.

    Cons

There weren't very many downsides. If anything, the downside would be being understaffed but that's actually better for a new employee looking for experience.

    Advice to Management

Again, no real advice needed. Everything was professional, respectful but also relaxed and fun. Not much more to say but need to meet a 20 word minimum here...
