    I worked at Rigzone.com full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

My manager, who is no longer in this position at the company, was good at helping employees grow and learn. I enjoyed working for her, and my co-workers were good people whom I enjoyed working around.

    Cons

My supervisor was overly concerned about publishing only positive aspects of the oil industry. The company should allow editors to cover all aspects of the industry, rather than only the positive ones. Telling only one side of the story is being less than objective. My salary, given my experience and what was expected, was modest, but that's common in journalism. There is comparatively little room for advancement. It's a fairly good job for a couple of years, and then it's time to move on. Finally, when an editor writes stores for the company and gets a byline, the company shouldn't take away the byline after the employee departs. All my bylines became "Rigzone staff" a year or so after I was gone. That never happened at any other job I've ever had, and it's wrong. My stories were written by me, not by the other "staff" at the company.

    Advice to Management

Provide more opportunities for advancement, and be more open to publishing the good, the bad and the ugly about the industry, rathe than whitewashing it for overly sensitive readers who only want to read positive things about the industry. There is a such thing as climate change, after all, and most of us know what the principle cause is. All editors to be completely truthful and objective.

I have been working at Rigzone.com full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

This is a good company trying to be "great" with people who really care about their work, their product and their customers.

    Cons

The corporate people outside of Rigzone are completely out of touch with the realities of what it takes to actually run this business. And you lost the only good leaders we had.

    Advice to Management

Honestly, you have no idea what you're doing. Get out of the way or get out of the oil and gas business completely.

    I worked at Rigzone.com full-time

    Pros

Well known brand in O&G with expanding footprint in international markets. Part of a DHI Group, Inc. operating a variety of job boards in multiple industries has allowed Rigzone to survive the Oil and Gas industry market flux. The company is especially known for its O&G news and featured content and has gone through a massive revitalization the last year which included integration with Aberdeen based Oilpro.com, overall rebranding and updates to the parent site.

    Cons

Associates display a constant sense of entitlement with complete disregard for teamwork, processes, or respect for senior leadership. At times the political environment is so toxic that nothing can get done.

    Advice to Management

Stop worrying so much about what the staff thinks you should or shouldn't be doing and move forward as a business. If people are constantly at odds with business decisions, show them the door.

    Pros

This company is always trying to improve and the people here believe in the product and have a lot of pride in what they do. The managers care about their employees. Benefits are generous. Office is laid back and fair. I really enjoy working here.

    Cons

The location is a little remote but not too bad. Still some growing pains but can be exciting.
