Pros

Great opportunity to meet a variety of clients and learn business types skills and pit falls

Cons

Media sales is highly deceptive and demanding. Long hours for a job that is thankless.

Pros

Fun work, smart people, lots of freedom. Cool environment. Obviously a great city to live and work in, if you can afford it.

Cons

Company traded old slave-driving bosses for new ones, freedom was rescinded, standards for editorial quality went way down. New bosses didn't seem to have a strategy for getting readers with quality writing and reporting.

Pros

Several sales and management regimes ago, you were free to pitch your own story ideas, and to pursue the writing tone and story angle you wished. They gave early-career journalists freedom and leash they'd be hard-pressed to get at traditional outlets and bigger papers. It was excellent longform training for so many talented reporters and writers who've gone onto bigger things.

Cons

The sorry pay, nonexistent raises, and constant budget cuts that made the morale sink into oblivion.
