  1. "Great company for self starters!"

I have been working at SML full-time

    Pros

The company provides each individual with a sense of autonomy + ability to create your own career path. This is down to the individual to achieve, you will not be hand held to that end goal. Create a niche, and make your self needed by the company + you will be respected and rewarded for your continuous efforts.

    Cons

The companies management team is ever evolving, and sometimes lacks clarity as to the overall direction of the company. Needs to provide more mentoring + more unity between all offices to create a stronger "team" work ethic.

I have been working at SML full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Interesting field of apparel branding, and working with a diverse clientele. Benefits are reasonable.

    Cons

Formally locally owned, now an international company. Trickle down method of management, not conducive to the self-motivated, self-thinker. No opportunities for personal growth. Poor company morale. Upper management does not want to hear anything negative, even if offered in a constructive way. When the owner visits, we are told to smile and act like we are in Disneyland, no complaints allowed.

    Advice to Management

Advice can be offered to local management only, but their hands are tied. Advice to Corporate Management? Make your vision and policies a reality. Quarterly reports do not reflect what truly happens at this company. You won't get favorable results with unhappy and unsatisfied employees that can tell the difference.

    Pros

Very laid back environment. You dont need call center experience to start to job. They internally hire for some positions.

    Cons

You wont be able to make it on your own with this pay. You would have to have some other income coming in.

    Advice to Management

Appreciate the good employees, try giving more opportunities for advancement. Offer incentives for sales.

    I worked at SML full-time

    Pros

Some coworkers have a lot of experience. However, there are no other pros that I can think of at this moment.

    Cons

Power struggles in upper management produced constant changes in company direction, organizational structure, and ultimately high turnover. People were constantly leaving the company - performers looking for greener pastures, under-performers being fired on Tuesdays and Wednesdays (???). Never sure who reports to whom or who handles which part of the work.
Multiple acquisitions in a short time span and no clear integration plan produced further problems, as the acquisitions jockeyed for power and USA HQ imposed unrealistic standards, procedures, and expectations on the new divisions. Woven label company trying to re-define itself as a RFID technology company while not understanding the ins and outs of that business.
No quality control and constant problems with customers as a result.
All central management cares about is the bottom line.
Ultimately a terrible environment to work in with high uncertainty and no betterment in sight.

    Advice to Management

When integrating multiple new acquisitions, it's important to let each company play its strengths and not impose unrealistic profit margin standards etc. on those companies. Profit margin standards, work procedures etc. vary by industry and trying to make everything perfect from the sight of a woven label company will not produce benefits for the company as a whole in the long run.
Also, accountability is important. There were many people in the division where I worked that just coasted for years.

    I worked at SML part-time

    Pros

Operates in many countries and has decent compensation

    Cons

No upward mobility if you're over 40. Definitely not an employee focused company. No value is placed on it's employees.

    Advice to Management

Consider changing the management in the NYC office
