A tennis match

Pros

- location (for the time being) - opportunity to load your cv with large scale clients - you'll learn how to survive

Cons

- unorganised management - no standard policies - a lot of shouting going on. Especially between upper management - roles are not clear as to who does what and who is responsible for what. Therefore, when things go wrong people blame others for their mistakes. - a lot of people coming and going. Only the devs are more or less stable. - management is very stingy and won't pay for proper equipment. - a lot of people work on their own pc's which is considered normal. - management (especially account) treat devs and designers like they work in a factory. They even refer to them as "the production". They don't value their work and are always quick to criticise. - the cleaner only comes twice a week and does a poor job (probably gets paid peanuts), so facilities can be a bit filthy from time to time. - there are no proper performance reviews and people get fired simply because someone from the management might not like them. - You are expected to work overtime to meet unrealistic deadlines. - I was personally put on the spot from the account director in front of the client as to when we can deliver.

Nice deliverables, bad senior management

Pros

* A continuously growing agency delivering great stuff (both creativity and engineering-wise). * The company strives to evolve and excel in the market while employees are nice people with great skills while senior management has great technical and creative hands-on knowledge. * You have a lot to learn by working on important projects that the company gets due to its widely-known and fairly-earned reputation.

Cons

* Senior management lacks mentoring skills. * Clients often insist on unrealistic deadlines and the company most of the time adapts; clients of course know that, hence they're following the aforementioned approach. * The company has to define clear, specific, written and widely respected internal procedures. * Internal communication and alignment across departments is a mess. * Senior management tends to forget or change their mind after kickoff meetings which causes confusion, frustration, and non-efficient collaboration. * Working environment is not the same across departments. Senior Management should assess that and try improve it where it's needed. Every employee is a human being and deserves respect and to be treated accordingly. * Loud working environment. It's difficult to focus. * Micromanagement requires both skills and time to have a good understanding of every project and every employee's workload. This procedure is usually extremely time-consuming.

Very poor senior management

Pros

- The agency is willing to implement creative and out of the box ideas - You can work with big Greek clients mainly in the banking and insurance sector. - The co-workers are nice people and many of them hang out also out of office - You learn to build strong communication skills the hard way

Cons

- Poor work-life balance: Many working hours. Unrealistic deadlines and last minute internal changes force employees to work late at night and weekends. - Poor job evaluation: Senior management lacks evaluation/appraisal skills and is not willing to understand the value of a proper evaluation structure. Their feedback is unproductive and more or less like "OK, your deliverables are good... but they still need improvement". There are neither specific comments on deliverables nor recommendations for improvement. Moreover, among evaluators are Heads of other teams that have few to no actual info about their employees' working progress. Employees feel that the main goal of their evaluation is to make them feel useless and work more with the same salary. - Senior management does not work as a team with their employees: They want employees that simply execute orders rather mindful full of ideas and proposals people. The irony is that when their ideas finally do not work, they blame subordinates for their mistakes in order to protect their authority to the rest of the managers. - The goals and deadlines they set are mainly unrealistic: Senior management is not able to estimate a realistic time plan for their team members. As a result, there is a lot of stress and many workings hours. The worst part is that when the deadline is close and the goal cannot be met, they intimidate and blame their team for working poorly. - The internal team feedback is on foot, frivolous and abstract. As a result, there were many internal iterations of a specific deliverable. The feedback is intimidating and not in person (in front of other team members or other teams). - There are no written processes, clear position roles and structure - The collaborative spirit is: "Those who shout loudest are the ones who survive" - It's a family business. Which leads to a lot of internal conflict between each other. Often there shouting and cursing between them. - It's an open space working environment which leads to a lot of noise. Difficulty to concentrate, or to make a call with a client.

Dear former colleague, I would like to thank you for your constructive criticism. It is very important for us to hear what our valued colleagues have to say about their experience at Linakis Digital. This kind of feedback helps us identify the areas which are in need of improvement and take corrective actions. Please note that some of the pain points you mention in your evaluation had already been identified by us as well, some time ago, and we have put great effort towards correcting them. Having seen the tangible results of these actions I believe that most of your comments reflect an image of the past which is not valid anymore. Additionally, there are some points in your criticism which are invalid. Indeed, we are proudly a “client-always-comes-first” agency. If we undertake a project we will make sure that our client will get the best possible result within the agreed timeframe and budget. Poor and/or delayed deliverables are not acceptable, primarily by us and most importantly by our very demanding clients. Although Linakis Digital is an agency which urges its employees to have a very logical relationship with their work and the amount of time they put into it, at the same time, we expect people to share our common values and culture and occasionally work harder in order to cover our client’s needs. Strict deadlines are rarely set by a management team which wants to wear down its employees in a self-destructive fashion. They are primarily set by demanding clients who trust Linakis Digital with projects because they understand that Linakis Digital has a very efficient, very talented team which can deliver the project within constraints. Finally, the fact that the majority of people in Linakis Digital have been with the agency for many years (7+) is a strong indication that the working environment has some substantial positive aspects to it. We have very open communications channels with all our colleagues and always urge them to speak up and let us know what is good or bad in the agency. We value their opinion and use their feedback to continuously improve ourselves for them. I understand that our culture, philosophy, mentality, and vision may have been different to what you had in mind and this is of course reasonable. I sincerely hope you find or have already found the workplace which better suits your mentality and culture. Best regards, Linakis Vasilis
