    Pros

Socially conscious, racially aware, liberal-leaning, anti-poverty organization; passionate people who care

    Cons

lack of consistency and infrastructure to be successful

    Advice to Management

The company is stuck in analysis paralysis and lacks the will to change. Give more platforms for information sharing.

I worked at Solid Ground full-time

    Pros

Great mission, great benefits for a non-profit.

    Cons

Decisions made by higher level administration and CEO are not in alignment with mission. Resource scarcity in both staff and capital lead to unattainable program goals.

I worked at Solid Ground full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Purpose in work, supportive staff. Work to be done was clear and somewhat structured. Good benefits and emphasis on self-care.

    Cons

Employees have been there way too long and experience burnout and lack of drive, passion or motivation in work. Too many programs competing for funding and very little communication between departments. Staff meetings were not structured, bitter employees, and so much untapped potential. Overall environment was very despairing and hopeless. Systems and processes in place that are not up to date or even user friendly, and a total stubborn and adverse response to any change

    Advice to Management

Get fresh staff, build up teams, support staff that are doing great work, hold people accountable, communicate much more clearly and go into the community and listen to the people being served or at the very least get feedback and document it. Update process

    Pros

You have the opportunity to work with individuals that care about helping people. You work with staff that really believe in the work they are doing.

    Cons

Lacks organization throughout the agency, departments operate separately from each other, lacks collaboration and the agency is a bit hierarchal.

I worked at Solid Ground full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Solid Ground has a great mission and offers much-needed services to people in the greater Seattle area. Its programs are innovative and relied on by the community. The people who work there are justice-oriented, committed, and fun to be around.

    Cons

Like many nonprofits, Solid Ground expects to pay people terribly and have them stay for the sake of the mission. Job expectations are completely unrealistic, and there is a lot of turnover. Programs are siloed and compete against each other for resources, both internally and externally. The leadership team is out of touch, and there's an us vs. them dynamic that the union perpetuates. However, the union is the only recourse for many employees to make sure they are treated fairly.

    Advice to Management

Management needs a clear vision that its employees can rally behind, and it then needs to back it up by investing in its systems and its people.

    Pros

Very good company to work for. Great benefits, good time off, very understanding and friendly management.

    Cons

Sometimes you find your self with too much work and too much on your plate and it becomes overwhelming.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work

I worked at Solid Ground full-time

    Pros

They have an admirable mission. It's honestly hard to come up with any other pros.

    Cons

Leadership is inept and does not communicate with employees. Every department is completely siloed and does not work together. Employee moral is rock bottom and turnover is super high. Many employees start, then leave within months. Lots of tension, gossip, and backstabbing among staff. Programs are under-funded, unsupported, poorly marketed (or not promoted at all), and therefore ineffective.

    Advice to Management

The agency has too many programs and has grown to an unsustainable size. Eliminate programs and focus on just one of them. Agency's solution to solving homelessness will not be effective in the long run. Focus on services to tenants, placing tenants into mixed income housing (not low-income housing "projects"), and assisting tenants with housing costs.

I have been working at Solid Ground part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The people are the best part of working at Solid Ground - everyone who works here is very passionate about social justice, and the office environment is friendly and casual. Because Solid Ground is unionized, the benefits are incredible!

    Cons

There is some tension between management and line-level staff regarding racism and transphobia in the workplace. Solid Ground's management is not very communicative and the organization can be rather clique-y (i.e. you have to be "in" with the right people to know about things going on in the agency). Solid Ground as a whole also appears to be mostly motivated by where the funding is instead of what programs they would genuinely like to see in the community.
