I have been working at Starpower full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Everyone's opionion is considered, ownership is dedicated to personal success, if you work hard you can excel and grow in your position.

    Cons

Competitors (less educated on product knowledge) will try to tarnish the Starpower name, so you have to know how to navigate those conversations with your clients. This is a competitive field, so if you're not willing to work for earning and keeping your clients, you're not going to be as successful as you want to me.

Getting 'fired' out of the blue because company didn't want to admit layoffs

    Advice to Management

Try giving a crap about your employees

I worked at Starpower full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Pretty good work environment. Hard-working atmosphere, but only 50 hours. Management is very involved with on the floor sales.

    Cons

Some of the products are being sold as much newer than they really are. CEO will exaggerate about everything. He's a good speaker, but some clients get the feeling that they are being "fleeced" when talking to him. If you can get by that, you can make some good sales.

    Advice to Management

Happy employees make the best salesmen.

I have been working at Starpower (More than a year)

    Pros

Allowed me to grow in my expertise levels and systems knowledge. Met some great networking contacts and referral business.

    Cons

Not enough room here for all of the negatives.

CROOKS! Ever heard of the Pidgeon Furniture family.

    Same folks different front

    Advice to Management

Grow up and stop screwing people you work for and your customers

I have been working at Starpower full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I would say the best, and possibly, only perks of this place is the people you'll meet. They have a lot of events throughout the year where they'll bring in pro athletes and cowboys cheerleaders so you get to meet some cool people.

    Cons

Management is very concerned with themselves. Any concerns and criticism will fall on deaf ears. There isn't a lot of room for growth and as the company is family owned, nepotism is in there very deep. If you're wanting to become an executive or anything like that someone day, look else where.

    Pros

Creative environment with friendly employees and management.

    Cons

Crazy hours. They expect you to work all day and events at night too with no additional compensation. Low pay. Owners get many perks from celebrity customers, media and vendors but don't share the wealth.

    Advice to Management

Share more perks with hard-working employees.

I worked at Starpower full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Nice large showroom off the North Dallas Tollway that is integrated with Home Theater.

    Cons

Ownership at this company has no idea how to treat employees at all. No doubt the underlying philosophy for years has been to treat the staff very subpar for they can go no where else to work. Well that philosophy has been killing them on turnover as they cannot keep any staff at their grand showroom, and it appears the shine as pretty much worn off after a years time. I honestly believe the CEO has no idea how to interact and manage people at all from the sales team to the management staff.

This company will never be a destination for accomplished sales staff for the pay and benefits are very subpar. No paid time off and very poor health insurance options, and don't get me started on the salary and commission scale. Compared to companies such as Capital Appliance, Keva Kitchen and Bath, and Morrison's they are very much outclassed which is a shame when you consider the image they are always trying to portray. Also it will be interesting to see how this company reacts to the new and formidable competition coming to town in the Pirch and Nebraska Furniture Mart. Without a strong and experienced sales staff in the North store it will be an ongoing struggle. Good with all that.

    Advice to Management

Not sure what advice to pass to upper management/ownership for I believe they realize the issues but just do not care. The culture suits them just fine as they maintain their lifestyle and ride herd over the minions. I could say try to develop better interpersonal and management skills but you cannot teach old dogs new tricks. Hopefully there will not be any motivation to try an open another similar store in another location because trying to retain a competent sales staff will only get worse in a place like Southlake. Constant micromanaging and used car sales tactics will never stick long term in luxury appliance sales. The proof is in the turnover.

I have been working at Starpower full-time

    Pros

Nothing positive to say about this company.

    Cons

They under pay you and over work you. They are not appreciative. The manager has no managerial experience nor experience in the department they work for. Awful communication, favoritism, low morale, your opinion doesn't matter, no opportunity for growth. High turnover.

    Advice to Management

Learn how to be a manager. Appreciate and pay attention to your employees and their hard work. Pay their worth and stop trying to keep the money for yourself. Be honest with your customers in how products are sold; if they're new, they're new. If they're used, they're used. Stop trying to sugar coat what it is and is not. Reimburse in a timely manner and pay people on time.
