Not the place for growth or real support

Pros

The concept of the product is genuinely interesting and could have been great with the right execution.

Cons

If your goal is simply to do your tasks and not look for professional growth or exciting projects, this place might work for you. But if you want to develop, create meaningful work, or make a real impact, those opportunities are very limited. The atmosphere appears friendly on the surface, but much of it feels inauthentic — especially at the C-level. Leadership tends to say everything is fine and there are no problems, but decisions can be made abruptly, including letting people go without prior warning. The culture heavily favors a tight-knit group — more of a “white boys’ club” than a merit-based environment. In practice, relationships matter more than performance, and those outside that inner circle — often including women and people of color — tend to have shorter tenure here. Many of the other comments about the lack of diversity, the “boys’ club” culture, and limited transparency reflect the reality.

A bunch of HS cliques

Pros

Teammates actually want to see the company succeed, and work hard to fix all the messes that the rest of the company constantly makes. A lot of people have passion and try their best to apply it to their work.

Cons

It's just all a bunch of cliques full of heartless, lying fakes. You'll be told for months and months that your job is safe, use you to train outsourced help from the Philippines and to implement AI, then layoff 1/3 of the US workforce the next day, claiming the company needs to cut costs. The hardest working group gets axed, but the ones who kiss butt to the bully leadership team, and call out every other day get to stay. You pour your all into this mess of a company just for them to not think twice about laying off their best employees.

Terrible Place With The Most Horrible Leadership

Pros

There are genuinely no pros to working at Step besides a paycheck.

Cons

The leadership team lack vision and competence - they are just looking to sell the company and doing a bad job of hiding it. In addition, the leadership suite has called people who work for them 'stupid' and 'incompetent' in front of other employees in public meetings. The CTO is an absolute nightmare of a human and bullies people in meetings and throws tantrums if things do not go his way. He also has the whole engineering team blindly following his direction, so they also feel empowered to be absolutely rancid towards their coworkers. If you do not believe me, just look at the droves of people who have left after not working at Step for too long. The turnover rate is absolutely huge. Avoid at all costs. Value yourself and your sanity. No job is worth what you will go through here.
