I often wondered if I would have a similar experience if I worked at a plant in North Korea.
Pros
1) Convenient parking. 2) Free coffee. 3) White Castle lunches were occasionally provided. 4) Uniforms are provided; even though, they look like they were cut from the Asian penitentiary clothing line, at least one doesn't have to think about what to wear everyday!
Cons
1) Command and control environment! The Japanese are extremely paranoid of losing control of their company so the go through great measures to keep things predictable. Everything is regimented from work practices to cultural practices. 2) Open floor plan. There are no cubicles. Desk are shoved together. There is no reprieve from anything or anybody. This is an extremely convenient way for the Japanese upper management and the American management to see what you are doing and implement control accordingly. 3) Really mature demographic. This place hasn't changed in 30 years, nor are they planning on it. If you are 50 years of age and older, I highly recommend Topy for your next career path. You will thrive. If your a recent grad, I warn you. Topy's old timers will launch a full frontal attack on your contemporary ideas and practices, and make every effort to up root them in the name of conformity. 4) Extremely impervious to change. As mentioned before, anything out of traditional practice is viewed as an effort to take control. This includes the use of email, suggesting to purchase autocad drawings as opposed to referring to faded orginal blueprint drawings, and being under the age of 50.
