I have been working at TPC Group full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

In the aftermath of Harvey, TPC leadership put their money where their mouths are by funding a mechanism to financially support employees affected by the storm. Employees can contribute to help their co-workers as well. Additionally, a team of 60+ employees provided immediate help to their co-workers by doing clean-up and initial remediation work on their houses prior to the professionals coming in. For a small company, the organization mobilized quickly and efficiently.

This is a great place to work and gain experiences beyond the boundaries of your job description. There's plenty of opportunities to stretch and find ways to grow but you have to be assertive and creative.

    Cons

Not a place to be promoted quickly if you're looking for upward mobility as it's a pretty flat organization.

I worked at TPC Group full-time

    Pros

    Lot of O.T, great crew.

    Cons

Old plant, rushed to do maintenance

    Advice to Management

Lower management is great. They can only do so much to help operations.

I have been working at TPC Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

A warm environment with a family feel. Mgmt supports their people. Every day is not perfect but we have each others back. No company is perfect but his is the best place I have been.

    Cons

Not a big company so less jobs to promote into.

    Pros

Good vacation, culture allows communication across levels of management. Software availability good for this size company.

    Cons

Big projects go too fast, small projects take longer than necessary. Very workflow oriented can slow down progress. Seemed risk averse to changes in workflow or technology. Small company with big company workflows and project execution, seemed slow in execution for small changes.

    Advice to Management

Why does a smaller company have the red tape to get projects accomplished?

I worked at TPC Group (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good working peers and department managers...

    Cons

Couldn't trust the new incoming management after TPC was bought out... They cleaned house by firing 99% of department managers, and the other managers from Plant Managers down quit before getting fired... Over the next few months who didn't get fired or quit got stabbed in the back and was fired as well... Not a place to work if you are looking for a career...

    Advice to Management

Learn to trust in your people and not the almighty dollar...!

New plant management is needed not the same plant management with different job titles.

I have been working at TPC Group full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

9/80 if you use them. Well payed for the position to reduce the hiring carousel. Ability to work on many things if you are enthusiastic and motivated. Smaller company with minimal overhead. Opportunity for recognition. Employee benefits are above average.

    Cons

Salary Freeze for 2016. Zero bonus payout 2016. Business recovering from poor cracker startup. Current capital expenditure was reduced with already aging infrastructure. S&P just reduced credit worthiness. Much time is spent fire fighting which increases chaos and micro managing while reducing the ability to work on more long term items. TPC relies heavily on outside contractors but lack of contractor oversight produces more problems. There is still dead-weight in the employee pool due to lack of realistic yearly evaluations. Used to have employee recognition program that encouraged and motivated employees but was cut in 2016.

    Advice to Management

Set manageable priorities. Put some money into trivial building maintenance ( Paint, landscaping). Just because the place was built in 1942 doesn't mean it has to look like 1942. Make TPC an enjoyable place to walk through the door. Create upward mobility for top performers.

    Pros

    9/80 schedule and good location

    Cons

Micromanaging, uncomfortable environment, lots of "closed door meetings", managers influenced by gossip, does not welcome change or process improvements. Does not follow through on promises and takes a long time to get things done. No teamwork. Lots of "it's not my job" employees.

    Advice to Management

Clean house and start over with management in Procurement.

I have been working at TPC Group (More than a year)

    Pros

Employees are quickly empowered and trusted to "own" their role. Suggestions are encouraged and the culture supports continuous improvement and change. Everyone, including leadership, is friendly, accessible, and down to earth. Successes are recognized. Values are important.

    Cons

Less sophisticated in processes, procedures, and systems. Employees must be comfortable with ambiguity. Not a lot of management positions.

    Advice to Management

Maintain the culture / feel while growing the company. It is the number one reason to work here.
