I’m deeply saddened that Treefrog isn’t turning out to be an amazing place for you to work. Despite your disapproval in my leadership, I do care deeply about having a great company, and it being an inspirational place for people to work and get paid to do amazing things you love to do. I’m glad you like the way the office looks. We put a lot of time and effort into making a great place for people to be comfortable and have great tools to get great work done. I’m also sorry beer isn’t always available. It’s always available until it gets abused or we hit hard patches - but historically, it’s almost always been there. Heck, we even throw some out for it not getting used. We don’t actually claim to be a flat organization, but rather a matrix organization (different ideas, but they probably feel similar). We do claim to try to limit unnecessary bureaucracy and paper - which sometimes works and sometimes does not. But the bigger we get, the more people we have to have co-ordinating the work and keeping people on track. We are likely going to get less and less “flat" as we grow, in order to ensure that everyone is carrying their weight equally and fairly. We are just starting to introduce more “people who just manage people”: which speaks to our own growth and change. It’s also very hard to be a “flat” organization and yet still have “upward mobility”: the two are often mutually incompatible. Treefrog's leaders have almost always been chosen from Treefrog’s ranks commensurate on talent, experience and passion… for leadership. Almost all of our leaders were once entry-level positions at Treefrog (which implies “upward mobility”), but this is, of course, is limited by our size. Not everyone can be “a boss”, nor is everyone ready yet to take the mantle of leadership responsibility upon themselves. Technically - we have infinite upwards mobility, but it is directly proportional to actual passion and skill for leading people, not on tenure or right-of-way. Ultimately: perhaps if you don’t see an opportunity for growth, we should chat openly and transparently in person, and get to the root as to why you haven’t seen personal growth to date. As you know, I’m pretty open about working with people towards their goals. We also do have a very unique reality in our business: we have had, and do have, many married couples working here, some of whom often end up in leadership. Usually one gets a job, and the other deeply wants to move to Treefrog as well. And then (for obvious reasons), they are deeply motivated to see Treefrog be successful, and where appropriate, and become leadership quickly. I’m not embarrassed by that, I think it’s lovely - the way it should be. I personally love working with my spouse, here at Treefrog, day after day, neck deep in trials and tribulations, sharing the joy and pain together. Heck, we met here. (All signs point to us dying here, too). (EDIT - Well, that theory didn't age well. 😆) All in all, there isn’t any magic button here. We are a (relatively) small company, completely based on humans interacting with humans, doing our best to help others whilst being successful ourselves. There are, however, many great places to work - pretty much everyone here is a “volunteer” (i.e. could get a job elsewhere in a heartbeat). I’d love an opportunity to help you grow, explain why you haven’t seen career progress (from my perspective), openly chat about your negative outlook and get you to a better place. We are all on this voyage together - there is no way it all gets better by itself. If you aren’t open for making it better, how could we possibly get there? You know my door is open!

Pros

Treefrog is a Company that that values it's employees, and goes out of their way to make sure that everyone feels valued and appreciated. The amount of support, dedication, passion, and creativity that each member of this team has to offer is exceptional. The best choice I ever made was coming to work at Treefrog.

Cons

I can't think of any.

Wow, thanks! I'm sure you can think of bad things too - but you know you can always talk to me when you think of them. Constant improvement!
