The job was good, supervisors and management were horrible, and NO training.

      Pros

Benefits are very good. The Human Resource department really does seem to care about the employees. Unfortunately, there is their hands are tied as to what they have the ability to do.

      Cons

Roanoke office Supervisors & Management they have NO people skills. You get NO training, and they speak to you like you are beneath them. You can't ask questions without fear you'll be reamed out. This office is like a prison, no morale, no talking, people scared to death to contact human resources for fear of being terminated. You have no management In Roanoke to go to if there are any issues. Employees keep getting more work load, with unrealistic deadlines. This is due to people leaving because of all extended hours required, and they were never replaced. When the company gets rid of a particular position, they will not move current employees into those positions. Regardless of how long they have been an employee been with the company, their experience, skills, or devotion to the company. Instead they hire temporary workers to fill those positions, and terminated the employees that the jobs have been eliminated.

      Pros

Not much good to say only that its a pay check. the spiff's that vendor's offer to the counter person is very nice at least they appreciate what you do for them.

      Cons

Customer service doesn't seem like it exists anymore all corporate management cares about is gross profit and to do more with less. part time help no more than 25 hours a week. Full time only 40 hours and if you work past it they alter your time so it is only 40 hours. God forbid your helping a customer and work 15 minutes overtime and make a nice sale they would rather you not take care of the customer.

A large organization that runs like a family owned business.

      Pros

The individuals and customers that make up the Uni-Select network are amazing. The daily work was satisfying and challenging.

      Cons

Communication from upper management down to employees was mediocre. The rumor mill would inform employees of company changes weeks before upper management would; this lead to good employees leaving due to the fear of company changes before upper management could explain happenings.

      Pros

working in the stores can be a fun place to work, with the fast pace and good people to work with. if you are hired as a full time you will always get full time hours (40 hours)

      Cons

management from corporate will show up randomly and throw there weight around, the pay is weak and only get raises once a year at a meager rate. the head of the ct. division is a warehouse guy who has no idea how to run a retail store. they don't advertise so no sales to draw customers. the system they use for sales in clumsy. and the worst thing is the floaters they have are given a pittance of a gas allowance and expected to drive all over the state

      Pros

      Pay was ok. Co-workers

      Cons

Cutting all part time workers to 25 hours a week. Which cut staff. Not replacing staff in stores that truly needed bodies. No overtime. But still questioned by management why customers aren't happy with service! The good old work harder with less.!

      Business Outlook

      Pros

The good people that I have made friends with.

      Cons

New COO is a hatchet man. Cut 450 jobs and the stock went up, what a hero. Management grills sales people with weekly conference calls where everyone gets called on the carpet. Reports and more reports. Cut wages, insurance, car plan, etc. And why do I still work here? Moral is worse than a POW camp. Employees at all levels hate this company and are bailing out of this sinking ship. Cut, cut, cut and more cuts. This company will work you to death, pay you little, steal your confidence and then kick you to the curb. Heartless and ruthless.

      Pros

Many DC's to draw stock from. Some +'s with their POS system. Great foreign nameplate coverage by owning Beck/Arnley.

      Cons

More concerned with complicating their corporate structure than providing their employees the tools and motivation to do what they're paid to do. VERY investor driven. Wage increases are meager at best. Constantly adds new and expensive layers to corporate hierarchy, while whittling away store level employee hours to compensate. More regional/district/general/middle managers than counterpeople. And Richard Roy, who is also Independent Director of Dollarama Inc. Maybe a strategic merger is in the works? 3 pack of foil cake pans with my brake pads please!

      Titanic: The Company

Apr 7, 2016 - Finance Specialist in Amherst, NY
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Despite the company feeling like the Titanic, our esteemed leader (the Finance Manager) acted as the ship's violinist, playing on despite having a gaping hole in the hull with water rushing in at a furious pace. She devised activities such as "Waffle Wednesday" and "Uni-Beach Day" to keep our morale up despite the inevitable icy cold water that was soon to begin filling our lungs as the ship went under.

      Cons

SAP system was completely broken and took 3+ years to get up and running. Half of the employees were lazy, the other half were incompetent. Management had no idea what was going on. Millions of dollars were owed to many suppliers. We had to punch in and out for breaks, clocks were watched.
