    Pros

This review is a little bit different because it's from the store located outside of downtown LA

Vision of helping the homeless of skid row get back on their feet.
Great apprenticeship program for men and women on skid row.
    Awesome colleagues
    Great resources for employees
    Holiday bonuses
    Family atmosphere
     Christian values

    Cons

No support from board of directors or CEO ( out of sight out of mind)
Abstract approach to solving critical problems ( put $ where your mouth is)
No communications regarding issues ( end up in back burner)
Tough skin working with homeless( relapse individuals, know it all types in their late 40s,welfare minded adults).
At times unsafe conditions for employees and customers

    Advice to Management

Update to the 21st century with efficient ways to approach real problems . Don't assume things will get better! Board of directors and Ceo support your employees with real solutions. Don't cut corners and say with don't have money! Cut your salaries! 90k salary ???

I worked at Union Rescue Mission full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Working with the guests who desire life transformation and are willing to work hard to do it is inspiring to witness every day. Healing takes place every day.

    Cons

Organization has gone far away from its founding principles. Employees are valueless. No training, no support, no direction, no morale, no backbone, no conviction. Management bullies and does not lead, is only visible when they are stealing credit for something or bringing trouble your way. Employee turnover speaks volumes.

    Advice to Management

Retire, resign. Take a hard look in the mirror. You merely hold a position. It is not appropriate to make your personal legacy a brand for the organization. Follow policy across the board. Reward and discipline employees based on actual performance. Lead, train, support all employees. Stop playing games and playing favorites. Communicate and be honest with employees, partners and the board of directors.

    Pros

The work they do with the homeless.

    Cons

The staff discriminates against those who do not have the exact same religious beliefs as they do even though you may share their goals.

    Advice to Management

Stop making it all about religion and make it about the people you are trying to help.

    Pros

It is a place where people can transform their lives. They offer a drug and alcohol recovery program that actually works. A person can get medical, dental, and vision care free of charge. The greatest thing about URM is the people who truly care about individuals.

    Cons

It is located in Downtown Los Angeles/ Skid Row. it is a very dangerous area, but once in the facility one is safe.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work. I personally admire the staff and administration.

I worked at Union Rescue Mission full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The organization does a phenomenal job helping homeless men, women and children. They offer great services, contacts and training for clients.

    Cons

I wish they were as caring to the staff as they are to the people we served. Very controlling organization down to monitoring who you have lunch with, especially males/females just having a simple meal together.

    Non-competitive wages.

    Advice to Management

Understand that Staff add value to your organization. Stop with the twice annual layoffs so your bottom line impresses the Board. Andy's not fooling anyone. He's loaded!!!

I worked at Union Rescue Mission full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The transformational work which Union Rescue Mission is accomplishing is immeasurable. This organizational is on the front line of the war on homelessness. Providing comprehensive support services to single men and women as well as intact families and families with single parents. Being established in the community for over 120 years I have had donors that extend through generations of support. Amazing!

    Cons

With the increased need of the largest homeless community in the nation, the challenge lies in the decrease of support. Union Rescue Mission receives no government funding.

    Advice to Management

The long term vision is lacking. This impacts morale and larger donor types.
