I have been working at Vectren full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Vectren provides many opportunities for development and career growth for motivated employees.

    Cons

It's a smaller company so once you reach management level, there are limited places to continue to move upward.

I worked at Vectren full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good health, dental, and eye insurance, 401k, pre-tax accounts for medical and child care, onsite health clinics where you can go when you are sick without having to leave the building.

    Cons

Although they claim to value work/life balance, in practice they do not. They do not allow working mothers time off during the day to attend their children's special programs, nor do they allow working mothers to take time off when their children are sick. No mother should have to worry that when their children get sick, they will have to choose between keeping their job and caring for their children. They continue to reduce sick leave benefits. Currently, there is NO guaranteed sick time. NONE. Employees are not machines, and even machines break down occasionally.

    Advice to Management

Being a working mother is sooo very hard. Allow more flexible work arrangements. Treat your employees with respect and appreciation. Don't just give lip service to your core values, live up to them. Upper management is completely out of touch with the real life struggles of their employees.

    Resign to more ethical leadership.

I have been working at Vectren (More than a year)

    Pros

When entering the company you are told how there is room for advancement and plenty of opportunities to grow. They have a program designed for their 'Emerging Leaders'. They are very involved in the community and encourages their employees to be involved by tracking volunteer hours. Pay is sufficient. Work/life balance depending upon your role or department is pretty good.

    Cons

Hard to get things pushed through as the company is very political and not very slow to make changes. Creating future leaders is a goal that the company strives to pursue however employees don't feel upper management is as passionate as is voiced as there are not trainings or seminars designed for up and coming leaders, only the 1 year program which is a program that upper management places certain in.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the voice of your employees and future leaders. Create processes that are truly geared toward improving the company and creating next generation leaders. Be open and receptive to change as it crucial to an organization's success and retaining top talent.
