I have been working at Vectren full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Can have pretty good benefits and ddecent pay. I've become close with a handful of coworkers and the breakers room is nice as there is food, numerous fridges, ice machine, and lots of space. Call center is cubicles but there are lots of windows, lights and plants. Help is available to you at most times.

    Cons

Training for my position in the call center was 7 weeks 6 weeks of material and 1 week of live and controlled calls. I liked my trainers at first but we often got off topic and would talk about family drama and personal information when we could have been learning more or practicing what we learned. For certain situations we needed certain accounts to practice and were left to find them ourselves when they have months in advance to prepare all this material for us instead wasting time trying to find something that works. As we all became more comfortable with each other getting off topic seemed to happen more often and our trainers would mention co workers from the previous new hire class by name and gossip about them. I found this to be very unprofessional and it made me think what they would say about us to the next new hire class. Whether we were prepared or not they throw you up at a desk and when you ask for help with something that you've never learned about team leads look at you like you're dumb and huff and puff anls they walk over. Trainers just read material from a PowerPoint with little direction. Upper management and the floor is pure chaos. Everyone had their own process and those who monitor our calls have different preferences. You could get marked off one time and have a perfect score for the same thing later. If you do something quite unsatisfactory it seems they bring it up to you when you can hardly remember what happened. There are many workers (and upper management) that behave like children and if you're a woman working here. Good luck. Women here are catty and rude.

    Advice to Management

Hire people that know how to manage and don't behave like highschoolers.

I have been working at Vectren full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay is about the highest salary you can reach around here without being a physician. 401k and medical is also great. Room to grow if you choose to.

    Cons

    No pension
Company is trying to do away with classifications and only hire one job title like the title I have which combines 5 union jobs into one.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the gas specialist and bring back our classifications. We need employees that are skilled in a trade whether it be a service tech, fitter, operator, welder or reg tech. What we have created by implementing the gas specialist is a jack of all trades and a master of none.

I have been working at Vectren full-time

    Pros

Dynamic company in constant motion toward improvement. Many opportunities for advancement, as well as making meaningful impact within individual job descriptions.

    Cons

Company works as a regulated business, which can constrain opportunities that might otherwise be available. Politics exist in virtually every business and it is no different in Power Supply & Energy Delivery.

    Advice to Management

Manage at the level you inhabit rather than a level up. First, seek to understand - and that means hearing not only the words, but the rationale and intent of your direct reports.
