I worked at WET for more than a year

    Pros

    - WET (Design) is a very challenging place to work. Timelines, utilization of resources, office politics, and the boundaries of what is physically possible are all examples of some of the challenges I either witnessed or experienced personally. I always have enjoyed a good challenge so that is one reason I liked working there. - The employee base at WET is very capable and knowledgeable. An inquisitive engineer can...

    Cons

    - WET (Design) is in some significant respects an architecture design firm. With this business model it has regularly occurring peaks and valleys in its financial position. Large extremes in financial position such as those experienced at WET make the long term security of the individual employee highly questionable. I recommend to anyone planning to work at WET to be sure to have a bit of a cushion to help you get through...

    Advice to Management

My advice is to create a subsidiary company that has an obscure branding (i.e. not readily connected with WET's branding) and produce run of the mill household items such as spatulas, cheese graters, or soup ladles. These kinds of unexciting, but useful things, could potentially be made in volume and help smooth out the valleys that the company experiences. Steady work would be better on morale and enable you to keep...

I have been working at WET full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Nice place to work. Free drinks and coffee (when it works). Master Class seminars are the BEST for lunch and learns. YEAH! Head of Manufacturing is the Best manager, EVER. Great guy, great management skills, knows how to get things done. He is a Keeper. Architecture Design team is one of the best I have ever worked with. Good pay. Just recently added a 401K matching program. Yeah. Good on site exercise rooms...

    Cons

Horrible location on the back side of the Burbank airport in 11 different buildings in three different cities. Minimal to no parking on site. Small gravel parking lot for 16 cars for 125 employees. Most have to park on the street (3 hours max due to company making city of Sun Valley put up 3 hour parking signs in front of all their buildings), city parking enforcement comes around and gives everyone tickets daily...

    Advice to Management

Get a big broom and start sweeping out the dictators, silo builders and useless management that look busy, but never get anything done. Focus on the company and the employees and let us employees take care of the customers. Tear down the departmental silo's and politics. Get rid of that grass in the solarium at the entrance of PD&E. Figure out how to get more parking and get rid of those 3 hour on street parking...

I worked at WET full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

None at all. This company really is not a place for a long career.

    Cons

If you want to succeed and have a long lasting career. I suggest you look elsewhere. They will lay you off with no explanation. Human resource department know how to suck up to the owner. The leads and managers will throw you under the bus if something goes wrong. Managers like to pick on new employees. Employees with seniority get away with anything.

    Advice to Management

Treat people with respect and don’t be fake especially to new employees. They have families as well. Managers please don’t be so arrogant and humble yourselves because one minute you may think you have a lot, but it can also be taken away in a second without expecting it. God bless.

I worked at WET full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Pros: A creative group of artists and people, fantastic parties with Champaign, free coffee and soda, occasional ice cream and pizza, interesting challenging work (if given freedom and time), and the veneer of a Hollywood movie set. The attractive front desk girls in mini shirts are a nice bonus, if chauvinist. The Steinway player grand piano is a showpiece, beautiful.

    Cons

Cons: Trickle down micro tasking design assignments with extremely bad and confusing refactoring compromises and constantly changing schedules and priorities, the infamous blame game and back handed compliments, wildly irrational office politics, and managers with huge ego’s, bad attitudes and cursing outbursts. WET hires and fires like it is a Disney ride. Watch the promotional video’s, do a interview, take a...

    Advice to Management

Mark, you blindly trust those who behind your back work (and talk) against your vision and treat your workers poorly. People love WET’s concept, but dear God hire professionals to lead and can teach good engineering practices and skills. Listen to your HR department concerns intently. Talk one on one with your employees and listen to what they say objectively and without impunity. Stop asking them to write positive...

I worked at WET full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

It is an impressive campus. If you take a tour there, you will see that they have done a great job of creating a visually pleasing environment. With a forward focus on an open work areas, it gives the impression that it is a very neat, tidy, efficient and well-ran company. The technology that they posses is always cutting edge, and they create pretty much everything themselves, from planning/design, the manufacturing...

    Cons

The cons much outweigh the pros, unfortunately. WET has been following the same business model for decades now, which is feast of famine. A big project will begin, and there is a lot of work to be done. The unrealistic project dates are much too aggressive. This means that designers/engineers are working all-nighters sometimes to get their tasks completed. This leads to mistakes, rushed designs, cutting corners, insufficient...

    Advice to Management

Value your hardworking and dedicated employees. Put their heart and knowledge at the center of the company. Be sincere. Pay employees on time. Forget the current cutthroat "culture", and promote communication, teamwork, ideas, and stability. Stop buying lavish, unnecessary big items that the company doesn't need when you can barely pay employees on time. Let a real business leader with a proven track record run the business....

I have been working at WET full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Working at WET is an exhilarating experience! Projects move fast and there is always much in motion about the office. Say what you will about the company persona, but I feel lucky to work with such a bountiful group of tacit professionals, brilliant creatives and skilled, talented and detail minded craftsmen. Cons

What difficulties that do come up on a day to day and seasonal basis are on par with other similarly sized entertainment companies and are artifacts of this company’s competitive spirit in a marketplace that often poses difficult and unexpected client challenges.

There are times when deadlines appear quickly and the pressure is on, but I believe that this an industry standard! I have rarely worked anywhere that did not have that kind of pressure to deliver at times.

I have been working at WET full-time

      Pros

Cool place to work full with creatives trying to break the norm in water design! There are no cubicles here so it doesn't feel like like a corporate office. This place place really pushes the boundaries and work can get challenging at times. If we need a mental break from work, we have an on campus personal training facility offering a variety of classes (yoga, boxing, hip hop, weight lifting, etc). We also have art...
