-Poor upper level management from the AC level and from city council. The AC level is disconnected from the bottom level employees and have no understanding of their job. They have been in their positions for too long and need a change.
-City council will not let the chief do her job
-Poor equipment. The city prioritizes new equipment for units(community outreach programs) that promote their agenda and neglect basic equipment such as cars for patrol. This adds stress to a job that does not need any added stress.
-Poor staffing and refusal to prioritize patrol over community outreach units. These units have a time and place. However as a police department your basic function is to protect the community. When you do not have the staffing to do this adequately this should be the first problem address and it was consistently not a priority.
Overall these cons outweighed the pros to the department and caused me to look somewhere else. I would recommend this department for someone looking specifically in the Waco area. If you are looking across the state you can find better pay to deal with the same big city politics.
