Pros

There is good work happening by program staff to help foster children and homeless families. The grounds are pretty.

Cons

My former manager was a suffocating micromanager that killed creativity. He would call or text personal cell phone at all hours of the day and night for non urgent tasks. He was really, really horrible in all ways I can think of; the worst manager I've had in a 10+ year career. UMCH is a very disheartening place to be as an employee. Even with a leadership change, UMCH remains a place of instability and indecision. There are lots of pointless meetings that run on and on and decisions are never made. UMCH treats staff as a commodity, and they do not make any effort to keep good employees or develop managers. Your voice won't be at the decision-making table unless you happen to be a middle aged white man. Company is not financially responsible. They do not adhere to any positive values as an organization. Run, run away quickly, from a job offer at UMCH.

Pros

It looks beautiful from the outside

Cons

Where to start, Director, VP's and CEO are sneaky and out for themselves. Money is mishandled, its okay to spent crazy amounts on food for meetings, updating offices for new staff but can't find it in the budget to pay staff. New employees are paid the going rate when hired but long time employees are living in poverty. Polices are outdated or not even followed. The lazy get promoted, very sad to see high paid directors sitting in meetings on their Facebook page or texting friends and passing work along to other, because they can.You are overworked but no overtime is given, some people get comp. time but don't have time to take it. It is a very toxic environment

Pros

The work they do is good -- keeping children and families together, trying to provide them with the tools and a path for a better life. The grounds are well-kept.

Cons

The new CEO is stiff and unapproachable. The board is not versed in business practices and is held in contempt by executive management. The office environment can be demoralizing and inappropriate -- derogatory comments spoken to employees by some executive management, unwanted hugs and unwanted touching (including shoulder rubs) from management; some management has openly cursed at employees. Expect to be micromanaged because some exec. management doesn't value expertise or understand standard industry practices -- only their own opinions and unrealistic timelines. Too many meetings are called that are unnecessary and unproductive. Leadership is not comfortable sharing information and prefers to leave employees in the dark. Some benefits will be promised at hire and never delivered. No matching contributions to retirement plan.
