    I worked at Which? full-time

    Pros

Good colleagues and good products - in principle.

    Cons

There has been a messy restructure that doesn't know what it is. Senior management are detached from staff, systems and the products themselves. There's an insistence about doing things even though none of the staff wants it which has resulted in a high level of staff turnover recently. Progression is difficult. Less important, but an irritation - the ongoing building renovation and all that comes with that.

    Advice to Management

Be less blase about letting good people go.

I have been working at Which? full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Development opportunities, new arm of the business so you have a say in things, listened to by management.

    Cons

Undervalued, Business is constantly changing with little structure in place for growth - often feels shambolic

I worked at Which? (More than a year)

    Pros

    . Great benefits
. If you happy to stay in the same position for 4 years or more, Which? is for you

    Cons

. There's an extreme lack of communication between departments and hardly any collaboration
. Senior executives seem to have forgotten the organisation's mission
. Heads of and senior managers struggle to push back when directions from senior executives make no sense so the teams embark on projects that are extremely short-sighted and waste of time
. It's a very hierarchical structure so not a good place for juniors either
    . No clear long-term strategy
    . Very political

    Advice to Management

If they don't change the CEO, nothing will change

I have been working at Which? full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Excellent employee benefits. Nice, modern working environment. Lots of very smart people. Opportunity to work with exciting technology (React, Node, Docker, AWS). Good collaboration between teams. Fast moving - always looking to improve the product. Get to work on a much-loved, well-used, prestigios product. Nice to work for a company that genuinely helps people and makes a difference in their daily lives.

    Cons

The company has a long and successful history in print and, as such, much of the organisation and its revenue model is structured around the publishing business. Sometimes this print mindset can affect the software development process with, for example, arbitrary deadlines for releases and a tendency to think in terms of finite projects, rather than ongoing, constantly evolving products. Importantly though, these issues are recognised and are being actively addressed.

    Advice to Management

Keep on working with the wider business to educate and inform on the Agile process and the vagaries of software development. Keep striving to improve the Digital products and platforms - but maybe let's not try to do quite so much all at the same time in future. Reduce the dependency on contractors in favour of committed, permanent team members. Things are definitely moving in the right direction so keep at it...

"Senior management lacks bravery to deal with serious problems"

    Pros

Good organisation, meaning well. Good employee benefits and working conditions.

    Cons

Senior management is not brave enough to make difficult decisions. Status quo always favoured over, much-needed, change. This means that repeated failure, at the senior level, has become the norm. Even when they introduce change, it's poorly considered.

Most of the 'troops' in Digital are demoralised by this attitude as we can see that huge amounts of money are being wasted and those responsible are never reprimanded.

    Advice to Management

Choose your advisors carefully and stop believing what people who are just trying to cover their backs are telling you.

I have been working at Which? full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Really nice people in whole company.
Great location and everyone is trying to help the consumers!

    Cons

As with all companies that employee more than about 10 people, sometimes it can take a while to get agreements to proceed.

    Advice to Management

    Keep at it!

I worked at Which? (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good pay, respectable hours, nice location next to Regents Park. Essentially a *good* product to work on. Something to tell your grandmother - as she is likely to be their target customer.

    Cons

Autocratic, top-down structure. No room for developer creativity as implementation was decided by others. Questionable approaches to test-driven development lead to over-engineered bloat-ware.

    Advice to Management

Clearly paying more money than other businesses doesn't encourage people to stay. Re-think the whole thing? I dunno. Lost cause I reckon.

    I worked at Which? full-time

    Pros

Which? is the UK's consumer association, and it was great to feel like my work helped to support that mission. I also had a couple of great managers over the period, and got a great deal of autonomy and support.

    Cons

The business is very slow from a technology standpoint. Whilst they supposedly use Agile methodologies, it used to frustrate me that any changes to the site would take up to three months to action.

    Advice to Management

Consider taking to heart the "Lean" approach to product development, and iterating more rapidly. Make employee progression paths more clear.

    Pros

    Location, Regent's Park.
    Work life balance.

    Cons

    Incompetent team.
They have architectural team, devops team, 2-3 dev teams in London and 1 dev team in Sofia to build the most dysfunctional atrocious CMS constantly goes down.
Long term contract with third party contractors.
Terrible management doesn't understand any modern technology and tries to micromanage everything you do, and doesn't trust employee's advices.
