This morning, we announced the publication of our fifth annual Sustainability Report, which provides transparency on our Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) performance and priorities. ESG considerations are integrated throughout our business strategy in order to ensure we deliver long-term value to our team, residents, communities, and investors. As we continue in our sustainability journey, our goal is to: 🌎 Operate and build responsibly, stewarding the planet across our business. 🏘️ Foster strong communities, at our workplace, across our homes, and in the regions where we work. 🤝 Remain a resilient and inclusive organization to continue earning the trust of all our stakeholders. Thank you to all of our team members who contributed to the significant advances achieved this past year! And we invite you to read the full report on our website to learn more about our ongoing work and progress:
This May, we observe #AsianAmericanPacificIslanderHeritageMonth, an annual event dedicated to honoring the triumphs and challenges of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the U.S. Today, we launch the celebration with a brief video by Justin Liu and Ryan Bartolome, co-chairs of our AAPI Employee Resource Group:
At AMH, the concepts of community and belonging are at the heart of what we do. At our core, we work to help people feel safe and happy in their homes and in the neighborhoods that we build for them. That means we’re intrinsically invested in the growth, success, and well-being of the surrounding communities where we live, work, and operate, too. Guided by our value of caring for people, we strive to support our residents and neighbors and strengthen our relationships with local communities by encouraging our employees to join us in giving back through volunteerism. This April, in celebration of Global Volunteer Month, we asked some of these dedicated and generous team members to share their motivations, insights, and advice for getting involved in community investment and social impact initiatives. We’re proud to share just a few of the many AMH voices who are leading by example at our organization:
We’re proud to share an editorial feature on one of our AMH Development team members, Director of Construction Shane Frey, who recently spoke to Blueprint Magazine about our resident-focused approach to #homebuilding in Utah: ✔️ "AMH now incorporates pocket offices into many of its new builds to accommodate remote working." ✔️ With durability and ease of maintenance in mind, we're "installing luxury vinyl plank flooring, granite or quartz countertops and tile shower surrounds as a result.” ✔️ We're innovating and diversifying regional design standards by taking inspiration from "more vibrant architectural styles and colors that reflect designs common in the South and East," like "the Arts and Crafts-style home, with its signature sloped roof, wide eave overhangs, front-facing columns and front porch." In addition to building communities, we’re also committed to strengthening them. 🏘️ Last week on National Volunteer Recognition Day, we were proud to celebrate our team members across the country that regularly dedicate their time and energy to giving back to those around them. 📢 A big shout out to all of our team members that volunteered with Three Square Food Bank to prepare 9,000 bags equivalent to 36,000 shelf stable meals for children who are food insecure in the community.
This Earth Day, whose theme is #InvestInOurPlanet, we’re joining the international community in reaffirming our commitment to better managing and mitigating our impact on the environment 🌎 At AMH, we work to deliver sustainable housing designed to last, steward the planet, and responsibly accommodate residents for generations to come. And we grow and operationalize our business with the future in mind, considering the climate throughout our internal strategies and processes. Our current focus is on: ✅ establishing our baseline energy usage and energy data tracking system ✅ reducing greenhouse gas emissions ✅ maximizing the efficiency of our homes, offices, and vehicle fleet Learn more below and stay tuned for our forthcoming disclosures, including our 2022 Sustainability Report and inaugural TCFD report on climate-related information. In 2023, it’s more affordable to rent than buy a home in the U.S. Declining home ownership affordability represents one of the main reasons why millions of people in the U.S., many of them Millennials, choose to rent instead of buy—at least until prices come down—or are planning to relocate this year. This month, we take a look at the key drivers behind this housing trend, according to data and experts in the industry, and ways in which AMH is contributing solutions to this national crisis.
