Our OsteoMed SmartFlex™ is a pediatric cranial expander featuring preformed cranial springs. It is manufactured with medical grade stainless steel with beveled foot plates designed to fit securely under the skull bone. The use of SmartFlex in spring-assisted cranioplasties (SAS) aims to correct the head's abnormal shape seen in children with sagittal craniosynostosis. An osteotomy involves removing a tiny piece of skull bone, making cuts on either side of the fused sagittal suture, and inserting metal springs (SmartFlex) that gradually widen the gap, encouraging new bone growth between them.
