I have been working at Acumed full-time

    Pros

New leadership is working hard to make Acumed a great place to work. Flexible work hours have been implemented and were long overdue. The work environment is far friendlier than it was with the exception of a few people who are still subscribing to the prior leader's doctrine.
The projects have been prioritized and we finally have leadership who understands the industry we work in and our customers. This is refreshing.

    Cons

There are still some leaders from the prior regime are slowing progress and need to be moved out. Pay midpoints are pegged with the market but everyone is paid at the bottom of the range. This means pretty much everyone is paid 10 - 25% below market.

    Advice to Management

If you truly want to have Acumed be a great place to work, you need leaders who care about employees. The new leaders are great but there are still changes needed.

I worked at Acumed full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great co-workers who have the drive to succeed, the knowledge to do their jobs properly, and an attitude that keeps the office light. Medical benefits are very nice, PTO is decent.

    Cons

No work from home policy, even for people whose positions require them to work nights, weekends, and holidays on occasions. Comp day policy for travel is dismal (2 weekend days worked is one comp day in the office). High lack of trust between departments and the ET/middle management. Company goals are either undefined or impossible to reach with the resources we have. Pay is significantly below the market value rates (30%-40% at best).

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to your front line, they know more than you give them credit for.

    I worked at Acumed full-time

    Pros

Experienced a decent level of autonomy to accomplish projects and tasks. Company was rapidly growing at the time so org was well funded.

    Cons

Company prided itself as a "family business." Unprofessional staff at all levels of the organization, particularly in leadership roles. Company strategy was to employ inexperienced, uneducated talent in hopes of grooming and growing individuals. Strategy bred culture of unprofessionalism that borderlined harassment. Salary/wages were WELL below market, EMBARRASSINGLY below.

    Advice to Management

Recently noticed change in management at top tier. Good move. Hopefully company will invest in experienced staff, particularly in marketing & product roles.

I have been working at Acumed full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Company values seem to be popular among the employees. Strive to manufacture innovative products for the betterment of surgeons and patients alike. I enjoy the diverse culture - there is a good balance of professionalism and fun around the office. Everyone that I work with is exceptional at their job.

    Cons

The average employee is 5-10 years older than I am.

I have been working at Acumed full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The people are great. I enjoy working with nearly all of my coworkers. The benefits and location are excellent.

    Cons

Salary is very low. All of my coworkers agree with this. We continue to lose high-quality people because they can't afford to work here. The new management does not listen to its employees, and we will continue to miss deadlines as people exit for greener pastures.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees. Turnover is insane. If you continue on this path of squeezing profits out of the company, this is how Acumed will die. This message does not go to Bob, but rather to the owners of the company, Colson. You are killing Acumed.

    I worked at Acumed full-time

    Pros

Acumed is a successful company that cares about the bottom line and profit. The benefits are decent, considering they are a smaller company and they have to compete with the corporate industry in the area such as Intel and Nike. They are successful in the Medical Device industry and they are not going anywhere any time soon. HR wants to do good things, just has a disconnect on research-proven methods and what the employees are asking for.

    Cons

Management is under-trained. They put people in management years ago that should not be leading others, and they had no training between then and now. Now they are paying the price for that which creates a negative atmosphere and leaves employees feeling frustrated and un-engaged. There is no flexibility with schedules, telecommuting or working from home when a family member is ill. HR sees the problem but cannot find solutions to things or what is causing the problem. Temporary fixes are put in place that never really find the root cause or solve anything long-term. HR promotions are given without interviews or job postings, and it's just accepted because it is HR. The different departments are totally separate and practically impossible to work with multiple people from different departments because of petty things and bad relationships between managers. Not everyone is viewed as equals, and opinions are weighed based upon your rank on the "favorites" scale. Everything comes down to money, and they would rather not spend any and get a "free" fix instead of fixing things correctly and benefiting in the long-term.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the feedback of employees. Dedicate to training management and employees instead of hesitating and then cancelling the training. Train your HR people to the job they are supposed to do. Too many HR folks that are not trained in their area and just do what they can to do the job without the knowledge. Trust your employees and encourage growth within the company. Instead of being worried about losing someone to a promotion, be encouraging of employees to grow and succeed. There will always be someone to fill that position you may "loose". Consider paid sick leave that is accrued separate from PTO, as it seems it is a general industry benefit that companies offer.

I have been working at Acumed full-time

    Pros

Acumed hires locally, provides decent benefits and salary, and the work is engaging and stimulating. You will find many people who are excellent at thier jobs and care a great deal about quality work. Middle management does its best to work around some of the poorer policies and executive decisions.

    Cons

Lack of clear executive leadership combined with an almost toxic butts in seats mentality. This companies work paradigm and technological support is straight out of the 90's. They are overly beholden to a entitled, over-cologned, under-educated sales force.

    Advice to Management

Pay a strong leader enough to stay and yank this company into the 2017's. Eliminate wasted energy on pet projects, dont be afraid to grow your headcount. Focus on filling and keeping vacancies. Gut your bloated HR department and replace with some common sense, timely policies. (Telecommuting). And cancel 1/2 your meetings.
