Showing our Pride at Cygnet As Pride Month draws to a close, this week we'll reflect on our celebrations at Cygnet. We're proud to be an inclusive employer, not just during this month, but throughout the entire year. We recognise and celebrate the diversity and strength within our teams and stand in solidarity with our LGBTQ+ workforce members, who serve with courage and commitment. Throughout all of our Services, we celebrate Pride always, with love, equality, and acceptance together. At Cygnet, we aim to empower people to make a positive difference, starting with our staff. We want everyone to feel welcome here, regardless of who they are or their background and experience. As part of our commitment to enhancing diversity and inclusion, we have now firmly established our LGBTQ+ Network. The network is vibrant and inclusive, fostering creativity, and honesty, and above all, it is always open to new members. Our network aims to promote understanding and inclusivity within the workplace and provide a safe space for all LGBTQ+ people to discuss their unique experiences and share ideas on how we can support emotional wellness at work. As May comes to an end, so does Mental Health Awareness Month. We want to highlight the rewarding careers available in mental healthcare and social care. At Cygnet, you can join us as a mental health nurse or as a support worker/healthcare assistant. These roles involve various duties, such as engaging with patients and service users, participating in therapy sessions, and maintaining records. While nurses need specific qualifications, support workers need care experience, a DBS check, and ideally an NVQ level 2 or 3 in health and social care. There are ample opportunities for career development and specialisation in areas such as psychology, eating disorders, or substance misuse. Working in mental health requires resilience, empathy, and effective communication skills. It can be demanding but also highly rewarding. If you're passionate about making a difference, consider a career in mental health with us here at Cygnet.

As Race Equality Week for 2024 draws to a close, we’re reminding everyone here at Cygnet about the fight for racial equality in the workplace - from the top of our organisation to the bottom. Here at Cygnet, we’re incredibly proud of our globally diverse team, all working together to help improve the lives of the people in our care every single day. We celebrate diversity because different people, with different perspectives, make Cygnet a better health and social care provider. Our service users, our residents, and our young people are incredibly diverse, so we should be too. That’s why we’re working hard to build an inclusive culture where people can be themselves. Whoever they are, wherever they’re from. Race Equality Week focuses on addressing the barriers to race equality in the workplace because we need to make it everyone’s business. The sooner we act, the sooner change can become a reality. If we all commit to #ListenActChange, then real change can, and will, take place.
It was Poetry at Work Day earlier this week – so a chance to let creative juices flow and see the beauty in what we do. Whether you spend your days tending to patients or closing deals, there’s inspiration all around us here at Cygnet. Many of us struggle to find the time to exercise our brains creatively, yet Poetry can be embraced by all work spaces and enjoyed by all ages. In a recent episode of our Music 2 Empower series - Chloe, a patient receiving mental health support from Cygnet Hospital Bierley, spoke about the positive difference that Poetry made to her mental health.
