Mental Health Awareness Week 2024 This week is Mental Health Awareness Week and the theme is Movement: Moving more for our mental health. By increasing the movement in your daily routine, you can boost your mood, wellbeing and productivity too. Every move will count towards a lifestyle that will create a positive impact on your mental health and small changes to your daily routine can make a big difference. Why not get off public transport a couple of stops earlier and walk the remainder of your journey? Could you stand whilst making calls? Try setting a reminder to move for a few minutes every hour or ask a colleague if they fancy a brisk walk on your lunch break! When at home you could stretch while the kettle boils, walk your dog on a more challenging route, play a game in the garden with your children or complete a free online workout. What changes can you make to move a little more during the day? As National Pet Month comes to a close, let's celebrate some of Flashbay's extended furry family. 🐶😺 Pets contribute to our wellbeing in so many ways. Studies have shown that having a pet can reduce stress, lower blood pressure and improve overall mental health. Some encourage us to stay active with their playful antics, while all provide constant companionship - easing feelings of loneliness and isolation. 📜 Happy Burns Night! 📜 Today, we celebrate the legendary poet Robert Burns and celebrate Scottish culture! We recently sat down with our HR Manager and resident Scot, Marie, to talk all things Burns Night and HR... What is Burns Night? Robert (Rabbie) Burns was a very famous and influential Scottish poet from the 1700s. In July 1801 his friends held the first Burns Supper to mark the 5th anniversary of his death. The evening included a tasty meal, performances of his work and a speech in his honour which is now known as the Immortal Memory. The first Burns Supper was a great success and so another was held on January 25th, his birthday, and now every year Scots from around the world celebrate the life and poetry of Burns on Burns Night. How do you celebrate Burns Night? Burns night is celebrated in the same way it was back in 1801! There's a traditional meal of Haggis, Neeps and Tatties, a wee dram or two of whiskey, recitals of Burns great poetry and often a rendition of Auld Lang Syne to finish off the night. What does Robert Burns mean to you? It's safe to say that Robert Burns was a big feature in my household growing up, last year at my wedding my dad's father of the bride speech was centred around some beautiful poetry by Burns. My dad is from a small town close to Burns' hometown in Ayrshire and he's a big fan of his work. Growing up I often listened to, and read Burns' poetry and every year we'd celebrate on January 25th with family members all doing their own
