Goodyear has released a non-pneumatic, or airless, turf tire for worry-free performance. We’ve been developing non-pneumatic technologies since the ‘70s, when we helped design tires for NASA’s Apollo lunar roving vehicle. Goodyear’s exclusive Duraweb™ Technology has been developed at the Goodyear Innovation Center in Akron, and is being manufactured in the U.S., exclusively for Bad Boy Mowers. The tire will be an option in early 2018 on the limited edition Outlaw XP. Goodyear’s Global Innovation team plans to continue developing non-pneumatic technologies for larger class vehicles.
In collaboration with the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University, we are sponsoring The Goodyear Innovation Challenge, a business design and innovation competition to uncover future mobility solutions in an emerging world of shared vehicle usage. Teams of four to five business school graduate students are invited to submit a shared mobility business case in response to a challenge, for the chance to compete in a two-day hackathon at the university’s world-class center for innovation and entrepreneurship. Today we announced plans to create a new facility in Luxembourg that utilizes an innovative production process to meet the growing demand for premium tires. Our proprietary process uses flexible, highly automated modules, including 3D printing, to efficiently produce premium tires in small-batch quantities on-demand for replacement and original equipment customers. The technology used in the production process was developed and tested over the past five years at Goodyear’s innovation and development centers. The new facility, set to open in 2019, is in close proximity to Goodyear’s Luxembourg innovation center and a tire proving grounds.
