When I first started working at Mapbox this past summer, I was poking around in our (800+!) public github repositories and a familiar domain name caught my attention. geojson.io, a long-time staple of my web mapping toolkit, was staring back at me, longing for some love, attention, and maintenance. This is a brief narrative of how we gave geojson.io a little TLC over the past few months, and set it up for easier maintainability moving forward. I have used it for years, with about 5 different use cases depending on what I’m doing. I find it particularly helpful for teaching. There’s no better way to explain what geojson is to new web mappers than to draw a polygon on a map and have well-formatted data appear instantly in a code editor.

At Mapbox, we believe in working closely with our customers to explore how to make location technology work for them. We’re not afraid to get our hands dirty - sometimes literally, like with our partner Rebelle Rally. This year, we sent Mapboxers Megan Danielson and Marena Smith to join the Rebelle Rally crew for ten days in the desert to better understand what it takes to plan and run the longest competitive off-road navigation rally in the United States. Together, we're learning how location technology can better support route planning, offline navigation, live event tracking, and audience engagement.
Mapbox has been awarded the AutoTech Breakthrough Award for ‘Navigation Technology Solution of the Year’ for our EV Routing solution. EV Routing implements EV-specific navigation tools to help drivers find the most efficient routes that intelligently account for charging locations and times. With this game-changing navigation solution, EV companies are sure to ease stress on drivers, win over skeptical consumers, and pave the way forward for the transportation industry.
We are honored to be recognized as a General Motors Supplier of the Year! We are excited to help more automakers like GM delight their customers through our ready-to-use and customizable navigation experiences.
