From War To Wifi Why So Many Veterans Are Finding A Career In IT When I first stepped onto Parris Island as a naïve young recruit, I knew I had made a decision that would have long-lived effects. Each veteran has a different story and different reasons for joining. At the time, I told myself I joined to serve the country, and reiterated to myself that I would have stable income, structure, and discipline. It wasn’t until years later that I had to admit to myself that the preeminent reason I enlisted was because I was completely perplexed as to what path I wanted to take into adulthood. I needed guidance. Click here to read more about From War to Wifi!
Crossing The Bridge Into I.T. “Don’t burn any bridges” is a sage bit of advice many of us have heard – if not given. Bottom line, whether business, social or personal, we should always endeavor to exit any situation with integrity and in a manner in which our re-appearance would be welcomed. As the adage goes, ‘you never know if or when you might need to travel across that bridge again’. Obviously, this is advice Alex Maldonado incorporated as a guiding principle – which paid off in spades at the beginning of this new year! Click here to read more of Alex's story!

Overwhelmed Much? Don’t we all feel overwhelmed at times? There are so many things pulling us in different directions in our lives from school, to work, family, among many other things. Feeling overwhelmed directly has an affect on how we feel and often times when we feel overwhelmed, we feel stressed. I am the Assistant Campus Director on the Houston Campus, I am a working mother and a wife. I know the feeling of being overwhelmed and the feeling of stress just like you do. I work with students every day. I am passionate about helping others reach their goals and obtain life change, whether that is one of my students or it is an employee on our team. Working with students, I am faced daily with helping them overcome obstacles and reminding them of why they started this new career path so that they can complete their I.T. certifications, graduate and reap the rewards of their hard work. Don’t Get Scammed by “Worthless” Reviews – Do Your Research Imagine my dismay when I recently viewed a comment on our Facebook page which read, “A worthless ‘education.’ Don’t get scammed folks.” I had to know who was behind this shocking and grossly misinformed assessment of our school so I easily clicked into the author’s Facebook profile. I was dismayed to discover that it came from a teacher at Duke University. This is a fellow educator; someone who stands in front of a classroom of eager students every day. He is getting his PHD in education. Yet, he took time in the middle of the night to discourage prospective students anxious to improve their lives through that very pursuit. What?! After a moment of outrage, I reminded myself that this is coming from someone steeped in the conventional wisdom of a conventional education. He may feel threatened by an alternative that challenges the status quo and helps thousands of students start rewarding professional careers in a fraction of the time and a fraction of the cost of his beloved alma mater. “MyComputerCareer has had a major positive impact on my life!” Channing enrolled at MyComputerCareer less than six months ago and has already landed his first IT job with TruVista (Communications Provider) as a Service Desk Technician! Before going to MyComputerCareer, Channing was working at a dead end job. The shifts were long and boring, the turnover rate was high and finding replacements was an agonizing chore. He had always wanted to enter into to some kind of higher education or career training so that he could get out of his current job. Channing was tired of jobs in which he’d show up, given his absolute all, and gotten zero in return for his efforts. Click here to read more about Channing's story!
From A Past that Didn’t Define a Future Nikolas has overcome a lot of obstacles to get where he is today. Nick is an Army Veteran that enrolled into our Live Online Program. Currently, he has several certifications and is set to graduate in March of 2018. When Nikolas met with his Career Services Director, many of their conversations centered around Nik’s military past, service related issues and his extreme desire to never leave his family again. He insisted he only wanted to travel no more than a 10-mile radius to and from work. Nikolas and his Career Services Director worked very diligently to establish employer relationships with Nik’s criteria for employment in mind. Click here to read the rest of Nik's story!
From A Dead End Job to IT Professional David's journey with MyComputerCareer began in April 2017 after spending over a year as an Area Field Manager with U-Haul. David's reasoning for enrolling at MyComputerCareer is one we hear often from our students, “the job was a dead end, with little opportunity to move around or upwards." David had heard numerous MyComputerCareer commercials over the radio and along with the encouragement of his longtime friend and co-worker Leonard Nichols (another MyComputerCareer student and recent graduate) encouraged David to enroll and make MyComputerCareer a part of his life. David is a military veteran who spent 26 years serving our country in the US Navy. During that time, he was committed specifically to teamwork and excellence. It was also during his time in the Navy that he became exposed to the world of IT. David said that during his time in the Navy when working in specifically IT that he was allowed to watch, but not touch anything. David says, “I’m excited to see what happens now and in the future!"
