Congrats to our Group CEO, Mr Samuel Tsien for winning the Outstanding CEO of the Year at the Singapore Business Awards 2018! Mr Tsien was recognised for his leadership in the impressive growth of the OCBC Group in both the regional and domestic markets, as well as the expansion of the wealth management business, digitalisation of banking services and building a leading position in SME banking.
While the banking industry is evolving rapidly due to technological advancements and changing customers expectations, our commitment to our core values of trust and integrity has not changed throughout our 87-year history. Our newly-formed Ethics and Conduct Board Committee will ensure that honesty and integrity continue to anchor the way we conduct our business, so we can remain worthy of our customers’ trust.
How do you make your lunch time count? In 2018, 800 OCBC volunteers spent their lunch break with 560 elderly persons. Partnering seniors from AWWA, Care Corner and Thye Hua Kwan, they painted, sang, danced, prepared food and played memory games – simple ways of reducing the risk of dementia. As a result, the seniors had the chance to leave their homes, talk to someone and have fun through activities that keep them physically and mentally active. How about spending an hour of your lunch time with a lonely elderly person? Being in contact with a fellow human being may mean a lot to him or her – compared to staying alone at home all week.
"Instead of looking at information in isolation, we can now benchmark it against other data points. For example, we can now compare our website traffic against our EDM opened and clicked rates to determine if there is any correlation between the two." “It is okay to give yourself permission to fall short. Always find the strength to bounce back. As a manager, employee, daughter, wife, and mother of two, feelings of guilt about not having done enough are inevitable - but I don’t dwell on these for too long.” - Cassie Ng, Vice President, Global Enterprise Banking #IWD2019 #BalanceforBetter #BalancethruLearning
Here’s another titbit on the difference between men and women and how they invest: Based on the BlackRock Global Investor Pulse Survey conducted in Singapore, the fear of losing everything holds women* back from starting to invest their monies. Only 58% of millennial women in Singapore invest, compared to 72% of millennial men. Ladies – does this ring true for you?
Girl power: Here’s something for women to shout about! When it comes to investing, women may have an edge. According to our Senior Investment Strategist Vasu Menon’s personal view, women tend to be more meticulous and take a longer term view. Could it be this trait that explains how in 2007 and during the 2008 financial crisis, women’s portfolios outperformed men’s by 4 - 6%*?
