We're proud to be working together with Women in Data® to champion the careers of women within our technology and data teams, and continue to build a space for more #WomenInData to join us here at Ofcom! 🎉
👋 This week, we were pleased to invite 30 new interns to our London Office for an engagement day, before they kickstart their career with us in July! Throughout the day, the interns got to have an insight into life at Ofcom - including learning more about our values and working culture. The interns also met with their mentors and talked to past interns. We are proud that 25 of our new interns were recruited through the 10000 Black Interns programme, a scheme dedicated to creating opportunities for talented black students and graduates. Thank you to all those who came, and we look forward to welcoming you in July! #interns #earlycareers
To celebrate #InternationalWomensDay we wanted to highlight some of the many brilliant women at Ofcom. This year's theme is equity, so we asked what this means to them.
We are proud to partner up with Women in Data® and are really excited to be speaking at their flagship event in London this week. Ahead of the event, we spoke to Holly Francois from our Technology, Data and Innovation group, who told us more about how important data is to Ofcom's work, and why our partnership with Women in Data® is so vital to attracting more women into data roles. #WomenInData #OfcomDataRoles #CareerOppotunities
This #SaferInternetDay we’re talking about media literacy. We want to empower children and young people to live a safer life online and become informed digital decision-makers. One of the ways we are doing this is through our Making Sense of Media programme, working with organisations in communities across the UK to deliver vital digital skills. One of these organisations is the Salford Foundation. They are working with children and young people to raise awareness among their peers about living safely online. We met up with those behind the project to learn more about their work and the difference it can make.
We’ve announced the 13 organisations across the UK that we will be supporting to provide media literacy skills within their communities. These initiatives will trial different approaches to improving media literacy among people who particularly need support, including: - Children and young people aged 10-14 - Older people - Disabled people - Local communities Equipping people with the skills to navigate the online world can help build a safer space online, keep people connected with others and allowing them to make informed digital decisions. Can your organisation help? We are also looking for organisations who can provide integrated mental health and media literacy support for people. Want to learn more about what media literacy means and which organisations we’re working with? Check out our video! 🔽 https://lnkd.in/ejmzmEHh #medialiteracy2023 AbilityNet Mencap
We’re thrilled to have been shortlisted for the Great British Workplace Wellbeing Series Awards! At Ofcom, we know people can only be at their best if they feel supported and can access the help they need. That’s why we work hard to offer a range of wellbeing support for colleagues – such as our recently launched Self Space workshops. These give people a chance to discuss different aspects of mental health - focusing on inclusion and breaking down barriers that still exist around mental health. This is a major part of what makes Ofcom a great place to work and we’re delighted to be recognised for our Thrive wellbeing programme.
We’re announcing a package of measures to help improve diversity in the UK’s TV and radio industry. With more people leaving the broadcasting industry, it’s vital broadcasters make greater efforts to retain, as well as attract, a diverse workforce at all levels of their organisations. To help make this happen, we’re rolling out new tools, guidance and examples of effective practice to industry. These changes are designed to help make sure TV and radio companies truly reflect the diverse audiences they serve. ▶️ Watch Vikki Cook, Ofcom’s Head of Equality, diversity and inclusion for UK broadcast industry explain the changes.
We marked the end of this year's Black History Month with a fascinating panel event here at Ofcom, where Black colleagues across the organisation discussed what this year's theme of #TimeForChange means for them personally - and Ofcom. A big thanks to our panel members Martin Ballantyne, Tomiwa Aluko, Shona Barton, Asha Musoni and Simon Mitchell for speaking so openly and honestly about their backgrounds and lived experiences.
