The Texas Association of Builders (TAB) named Perry Homes as the Philanthropist of the Year. Perry Homes has been extremely proactive in helping to alleviate the critical shortage of construction trade professionals in Texas, working with local school districts, community colleges, and career and technical education associations. Ron Rohrbacher (VP of Construction Training) says the average age of skilled tradesmen like plumbers, electricians, and carpenters is 55, and as these craftsmen retire in the coming years, there aren’t enough skilled workers entering the workforce. Ron and others are working to do something about this shortage. Perry Homes is responsible for the creation of a construction trades program in the Houston Community College system, using the Home Builders Institute curriculum from the National Association of Home Builders. The first group of students will be starting the program soon.
