We're delighted and proud that Scott Logic is ranked 26th in Newsweek's first annual rankings of the UK’s Top 100 Most Loved Workplaces®! The list recognises companies that place appreciation, care and respect for their employees at the centre of their business model and, in doing so, have earned the loyalty and respect of the people who work for them. As our CEO Steve Foreshew-Cain says, "We’re committed to continually improving our employee experience so that we remain worthy of Most Loved Workplace recognition for many years to come.”
When it comes to harnessing government data, how can you make the best use of innovations like AI, data lakes and digital twins? As Jessica McEvoy explains, it's by focusing first on laying down the right foundations: investing in the right people, processes and skills in the right sequence. Jess reflects on the topic in this follow-up to the roundtable discussion she hosted at the recent Government Data Summit, run by Government Transformation magazine.
Our Beyond the Hype podcast is back after a summer break! In this episode, we pose the question 'Is the metaverse built on foundations of hype?' Our CTO Colin Eberhardt and Technology Director Oliver Cronk are joined by Johanna Eiramo of the Finnish National Gallery and Blockchain & Web3 Specialist Lilly Pencheva. In their conversation, they ask the question “What is Web3?” and explore what it means to be a decentralised technology. They discuss the metaverse, Roblox and other virtual environments, and very briefly touch on NFTs. But for the most part, they talk about exploration and innovation. Enjoy their lively discussion here. The perfect Monday morning read if you have a day of meetings ahead of you – Delivery Principal Louise Wilson offers a range of practical tips on how to avoid falling into the meeting vortex.
With a growing number of voices heralding Web3 as the future of the internet, Colin Eberhardt decided it was time to put it to the test from an engineer's perspective, seeing how it fares against the contemporary approach to building apps – the cloud. In summary: not well. For his Web3 experiment, he picked a service that he already runs on public cloud infrastructure – the applause button on our blog posts – and tried implementing it on Ethereum. He shares his learnings from that experiment here.
At Scott Logic, we’re becoming a more sustainable business – an independent assessment by EcoVadis places us in the top 14% of assessed organisations in our industry, regardless of company size. EcoVadis’s assessment approach is based entirely on documentary evidence of policies, actions and results, categorised under four themes: Environment, Labour and Human Rights, Ethics, and Sustainable Procurement. Last year, by comparison, Scott Logic was in the top 45% of assessed organisations. The sizeable improvement has been thanks to a range of new policies, including our commitment to net zero, our improved family leave policies, and our hybrid working policy.
How can government departments be empowered to use their data to inform decision-making? How are decisions currently made, and how can this be improved? These are questions that Principal Consultant Jessica McEvoy is looking forward to discussing with our roundtable guests at Thursday's Government Data Summit. In this Government Transformation magazine article, Jess shares some thoughts on this important topic, and lays out the simple three-step approach that Scott Logic has successfully deployed with government departments to unlock actionable insights from their data.
A small up-front time investment to build an automated regression test suite at the start of your project will pay dividends further down the line, as Senior Test Engineer Tom Gilbert explains. He sets out the 'what' and the 'why' of regression testing before providing solutions to the common blockers placed in its way.
We’re proud to be a Partner of next Thursday’s Government Data Summit at which we’ll be hosting a roundtable discussion on Data-Driven Decision-Making. Principal Consultant Jessica McEvoy will be hosting the roundtable, and she’s a guest on a new episode of The Government Transformation Show podcast which you can listen to via the links below. In the discussion, Jess explains how being able to use data to drive decisions helps departments increase the value they bring, enabling them to deliver better services to more people and get better outcomes. We’re really looking forward to the discussion at the Summit next week, where our roundtable guests can share the challenges they’re facing and we can share practical advice and examples of ways we’ve made inroads in this space through our work in the public and private sectors.
