We’re excited to announce that our researchers have received a $100,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD)! This grant will be used to research new, less invasive treatment methods for fractures in patients diagnosed with NF1, an uncommon genetic disorder associated with pediatric and adult tumors and persistent bone fractures. We’re beaming with pride for our former patient and future orthopedic surgeon, Jasmine! During the Perry Outreach Program (POP) course designed to introduce young women to orthopedic surgery and engineering careers, Jasmine was one of 30 young women that performed mock orthopedic surgeries and conducted biomechanical experiments, while also hearing from prominent women engineers and surgeons in the field. Our sports medicine experts recently shared results from leading-edge research looking at single-sport athletes and their risk for a secondary ACL tear. Third-year UT Southwestern Medical Center medical student, Craig Kemper, presented this study at the Mid-America Orthopaedic Association annual meeting. The project compared recoveries between single sport and multi-sport young athletes after undergoing an ACL reconstruction. Learn more on our website.
