We’re reflecting on LGBT+ history this month by recognising some of the influential figures who have championed equality. We caught up with Brad Walker, chair of our LGBTQ+ Network, who wanted to shine a light on Angela Morley. He says: ‘Angela was an influential trans composer who won two Emmys for her work on Watership Down and Peeping Tom. I really respect her courage in transitioning and her cultural impact, creating music for TV, cinema and radio.’ Throughout the month, we’ll be hosting LGBTQ+ Network events at our London and Cardiff offices, where colleagues can meet up, have a brew and a chat, and take part in an LGBTQ+ History quiz.

It’s National Apprenticeship Week, so we asked two of our recently qualified apprentices, junior content producer Natalie Turner and learning and development adviser Conor Bannister to share a few thoughts. Natalie said: ‘When I applied to Which?, I had just graduated from university, and the role was advertised alongside the apprenticeship. I thought of it as a bonus on top of getting my foot in the door of the publishing world, an additional qualification I could earn. ‘Overall, the opportunity for an apprenticeship allowed me to work full-time and earn money while still developing my skills and learning new skills relevant to my job and future career.’ Conor said: ‘I was really keen to get a professional qualification in learning and development, but also as I oversee our brilliant apprentices, I wanted to get a better understanding of their experience. I wanted to be able to tailor my learning to my interest (mainly coaching and psychology), which the considerable amount of self-study time allowed me to do. It has been a challenging but rewarding process.’ #NationalApprentice
On Thursday, we were pleased to host Harriett Baldwin, UK Parliament Treasury Select Committee Chair, alongside consumer groups, charities and businesses to discuss key financial issues facing consumers and how government and businesses can provide support through the cost of living crisis. We look forward to seeing how the Treasury Select Committee uses the ideas shared in the session to inform their future work, and we will continue to engage with them on our joint priorities.
