What is a Server Engineer?

Server engineers are in charge of maintaining cloud-hosted environments, ensuring that a server is secure, developing backup procedures, maintaining system integrity, and optimizing server performance. Server engineers configure and manage the servers of different operating systems and must be ready to install systems, fix issues, or perform upgrades. They implement enhancements to servers to improve performance and reliability and may be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing enterprise system technologies.

Server engineers are fluent in cloud solutions and virtualization software including VMware and need a thorough understanding of patching tools and security vulnerability scanning. They must interpret information in generated reports and come up with strategies to resolve unearthed vulnerabilities. Say troubleshoot systems and diagnose issues. And they must be apprised and stay apprised of new systems and technology on the market. Server engineers need a minimum bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related fields.

Responsibilities for Server Engineer

  • Act as a technical expert and provide timely response to customer requests.
  • Document all service calls thoroughly in the ticketing program when completed.
  • Engineer and implement system solutions for customers using technologies that meet their needs.
  • Identify and articulate technical challenges and risks along with proposed solutions.
  • Analyze, implement, maintain and support clients networked IT environments including IT equipment, servers, printers, firewalls and software for a variety of diverse small, medium-sized and enterprise organizations.
  • Create network shares, group policies, domain administration, and security permissions.
  • Monitor, diagnose, troubleshooting and resolve clients' technical environments and end-user IT support requests remotely and on-site in an apt manner using our ticketing systems plus other remote tools, and concluding the support request within an equitable amount of time while providing extraordinary service.
  • Handle tier 3 support escalations from IT Support Technicians.

Qualifications for Server Engineer

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering or computer science.
  • Advanced experience with a range of Microsoft tools and programs, including PowerShell and Active Directory.
  • Comfortable working in a cloud-based environment.
  • Skilled with a variety of operating systems, including Linux systems.
  • Fluent with SQL and other programming languages.
