What is a Technical Advisor?

Technical advisors provide expert knowledge and guidance in their particular field of expertise. This often involves reviewing reports, research materials, or other documents for technical accuracy. They may be asked to consult in general business operations that involve material of a highly technical or scientific nature. They often provide verification or fact-checking services. Technical advisors can serve as subject matter experts who guide internal staff, but they often also interact with external contacts such as business customers and vendors. They may provide the organization’s clients with information or guidance.

Technical advisors typically have at least a bachelor’s degree in their field of expertise, along with extensive professional experience and other credentials. They must be able to explain complicated concepts in a relatable way that is easy to understand.

Responsibilities for Technical Advisor

  • Lead strategy and technical design of communicable disease and global health security project proposals.
  • Act as a liaison between technical support and all cross-functional departments to relay voice of customer (VOC) and drive continuous improvement.
  • Handle all incoming questions from our customers, providing them with prompt, accurate answers.
  • Provide efficient troubleshooting support on testing systems.
  • Participate, and represent the organization as needed, in outside associations, conferences, and symposia.
  • Provide technical and strategic guidance to projects and initiatives including oversight and management of projects and activities.
  • Co design, lead and, as appropriate, participate in in-country technical assistance assignments and producing high quality deliverables.
  • Grow a portfolio by identifying and fostering key client relationships, develop concept notes and pitches, and lead the proposal development process.
  • Provide world-class service and support to all internal and external customers via the inbound call center.
  • Identify and handle customer concerns, utilizing cross-functional relationships to negotiate 'outcome where everybody wins' solutions.
  • Submit leads to drive appropriate up-sell and cross-sell opportunities to the customer.
  • Be successful through mentoring and leading within the department.
  • Provide outstanding service and support to customers via the call center.
  • Identify and handle customer issues and utilize cross-functional relationships to find solutions.
  • Identify and promote innovative scalable supply chain solutions that improve product availability for customers.
  • Assess problems with production machinery/equipment and identify root cause(s).
  • Regularly review and contribute to program reporting and data analysis, including preparation and dissemination of scientific publications, and engage as needed with program managers in program modifications, problem solving and donor discussions.
  • Emergency deployments may be in resource-deprived environments with austere living conditions.

Qualifications for Technical Advisor

  • Bachelor's or Graduate's Degree in business, computer science, engineering or information systems, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with SQL, HTML, R Language, C#, CSS, and IIS software and systems.
  • A leader and collaborator.
  • Prior experience as a consultant.
  • Strong critical thinking and decision making skills.
  • Fluent in incident response and dedicated to continuous improvement.
  • Familiar with pattern recognition and information dissemination.
  • Able to provide technical assistance to clients and strengthen relationships.
  • The successful candidate will be collaborative, seeking win/win solutions, work as a team leader, be able to set strategy as well as roll-up his/her sleeves to support strategy implementation.
