Culture Clash: Deterioration of Feedback Culture Under New Management

      Customer support

      Business Outlook

      Pros

When I first joined, there was a strong culture of openness and the genuine commitment of the management to listen to employee feedback. However, in recent times, there has been a noticeable decline in this aspect, coinciding with a shift in leadership

      Cons

I used to speak highly of Adyen's open culture but it is long gone. New management lacks alignment with company culture Openness to feedback has diminished Retaliation against employees who provide genuine feedback The new leadership, heavily influenced by Asian culture, has brought with it a different set of values and practices that do not align with the established company culture The company prefers new externals hires instead of encouraging internal growth, so if you're trying to progress this is not the place for you.

      Pros

Average pay, good job flexibility and culture.

      Cons

Leadership is all European. Business leaders sit in Europe while making decisions for American market. Incentive to stay at company fades very very quickly from a monetary basis.

      Great employer with growing pains

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Work life balance, employee perks, flat structure and great culture. Super agile company where employees can pick up the phone to call anyone, decisions can be made quickly and products launched rapidly.

      Cons

More senior managers being hired from outside the business with strong corporate backgrounds is corroding the company culture. Whilst this does bring more structure and process (which can be good - especially where other managers have been promoted through the business with no real experience in management or leadership), there is a large risk of turning Adyen into another bloated bureaucracy where management own information flows that stifle innovation and encourage decision paralysis. There is also a push to hire externally for most jobs so once you’re in there is limited opportunity for promotion.

      Pros

Adyen truly lives up to its reputation as a fast-paced, innovative, and globally-minded company. The culture is built on trust and autonomy, you’re given a lot of responsibility early on, which can be challenging, but it’s an amazing environment if you’re driven and eager to learn. Leadership is transparent and approachable, and there’s a strong focus on collaboration across teams and regions.

      Cons

The learning curve can be steep, especially for those coming from more structured or hierarchical environments. It’s not a place for people who need constant direction or hand-holding, you need to be proactive and comfortable with ambiguity.

The culture is great, leadership is questionable

      Business Outlook

      Pros

The culture and atmosphere are really positive, even if things can get a bit messy at times. People are collaborative, work-life balance is good, and there are a lot of talented individuals around. There’s plenty of opportunity to learn, even if it’s not formally linked to performance.

      Cons

Compensation is below industry benchmarks, and management effectiveness is uneven. Some leaders excel, while others focus more on presentation than execution. With strong talent leaving, the company should review mid-level hiring and leadership development to retain key people.

      Pros

My experience working at Adyen has been nothing short of amazing. The company's culture is incredibly collaborative and supportive, with a clear focus on innovation and growth. From day one, I felt empowered to take ownership of projects and contribute meaningfully to the team.

      Cons

The fast-paced environment is exciting and dynamic

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Some talented and supportive individuals make the experience tolerable, though they don’t get the recognition they deserve.

      Cons

The company struggles with a toxic culture where fitting in often depends on superficial traits rather than merit. Claims of diversity and inclusion don’t reflect the reality. The technology stack is outdated, and the company’s stated values often conflict with its actual practices. Management lacks clear direction, leaving employees overworked and under-supported, especially given rapid growth. Compensation does not align with the workload and expectations. The work environment is highly political, and trust among colleagues can be low.

      Cons

Where to begin... Adyen used to be special (3+ years ago). Holding a large variety of people and teamwork was the essence of it all (and probably part of the success) however, since about a year back a lot has changed. Stakeholders set demands and as a result, the whole company changed - more or less. Way more Americans hold high positions and instead of growing internally (valuing the loyalty of the experienced employees) desirable positions go to external hires instead. So, needless to say, the growth at the company is NOT what it used to be and you should not expect any breakthrough career happening at Adyen. Now there are two more things worth mentioning. The workload in most teams is more than can be handled and the communication between teams that should collaborate is bizarre, inefficient would be a nice word for it. This lack of communication and collaboration not only drive employees crazy but also naturally makes the job harder. As a result, teams shit-talk each other and irritation grows. I have also seen bullying in the office, which leads to the most vital point - company culture. Sure, it looks cool with the huge parties and stickers on the computers (it's a tech company after all), but behind this facade and PR- strategy, it's a soulless company where you are just as replaceable as the next guy. Real company culture is not free lunch and parties, but a motivational, safe, encouraging work environment where people feel appreciated and valued as humans.
