What is the salary like at BC Housing?

      Pros

      Benefits, work life balance, stable

      Cons

Slow, no room for advancement, lack of innovation and progressive thinking, low salary

      Purposeful Work, enables at times

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Remote work, purposeful work. ie. Allows for people who have lower incomes such as they love their job but the salary is relatively low compared to other positions. To work in the careers they are passionate about. Supports people with health issues who are not able to work.

      Cons

The housing policies need constant review to be relevant ie. speculation and high municipality taxes are key part of high housing prices, but not all relevant insights such as the above are included in policy. Additionally need to not want to fix people as some folks are not ready to live to their potential so let them be, and choose affordable housing, ie. I knew of an accountant CA who lived in afford. housing, but said he experienced bullying at work so quit, now unemployed due to trauma at work. I understand but is there a line between enabling and understanding, he needs counselling so he can heal and then move to living a productive life in which he doesn't need affordable housing, but at this time he does during his life transition. The current CEO Mr. Tong is very kind but I find he is enables people to not live to their potential. Lower benefits than private sector in BC Housing, but it is an important gov't agency.

      Very Questionable Employer

      Applicant services
      Current employee
      Burnaby, BC
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Flexible work week. You get an extra day off every 3 weeks. Depending on the department you work in, you get to do work that makes a difference in people's lives. The employer did a fantastic job at hiring the most kind, caring, loyal and lovely people that you could ever work with. It's probably the biggest perk of the job. Public Service pension Benefits

      Cons

Long recruitment process. Expect to wait 1-3 months from the time you apply for a position, to the time you actually start. Many times, job applicants find another job somewhere else before BC Housing finish up their lengthy recruitment process. Unionized staff have been working under an expired collective agreement for almost 2 years. Current staff don't have a lot of faith in the employer anymore. They've repeatedly, over the past year and a half, denied to meet with the Union and rejected our simple asks. Extremely poor salaries compared to not just other crown corporations, but most of the private sector too. Many staff are paid so low, that they actually would qualify for some BC Housing's rent subsidy programs, which are designed for low income people. Staff are extremely over worked. Many choose to work through their breaks, start work early or stay back late. The employer favors hiring temporary and contract staff from recruitment agencies. They pay these recruitment agencies substantially more than their own permanent full time, unionized employees.

      Pros

      work life balance, good benefits

      Cons

Wage Injustice: The current pay is unlivable, and BC Housing shows no interest in fixing it. Despite the agreement expiring two years ago, they've consistently dodged meetings with union reps. Adding insult to injury, they're now pushing new hires to work Sundays without extra pay. Management Mismanagement: While a few managers stand out, most are either lazy, selfish, or excessively controlling. Some even demand overtime without compensation, showing a blatant disregard for their team's welfare.

      Pros

Good benefits and you get off on time.

      Cons

Very rigid/structured, not much flexibility. If you deviate from your schedule, it would look bad on your end. Not much culture here. You have to pay for your own meals during meetings or special gatherings. This company has a very small budget for it's staffs. Pay is pretty low for the job.
