Pros
My experience with Betsson was very ambivalent. Lovely offices, lovely people, good benefits, smiley faces, no holier than thou attitudes. Induction extremely smooth, trainers very nice, intelligent and approachable. Senior Management clearly intelligent individuals with a good company culture. Unfortunately, experience for myself on team I joined was quite horrific.
Cons
Once I joined my team, initially everyone was really nice. Then after several days in the role the person training me left and went on holiday. Another person took over the training and it was a truly horrifying experience.
I told my colleague, I was tired after doing a lot of manual data entry that day and asked if we could do training in a system to do banners for the company another day. Her and the manager were very angry at my request and there was actual screaming. I didn't have access to the tool required to do the banners, so it also wasn't really possible for me to train in it properly. Regarding the access request for the back office.
I was queried on it a total of 13 times and was asked to show physical evidence in the form of direct messages 3 times for the same access request to show I had pushed for the access. And it was very puzzling to me as I didn't have any influence on the access requests at all or any authorization to grant it, so it was very strange having so much aggression directed towards me over something really unrelated to me and completely beyond my control.
The way I was shown to do the banners was by manually editing each banner on it's own. This had to be done for a total of 22 websites desktop and mobile and for the individual languages on each website as well. So for one full set of banners I had to edit over 40 banners individually and approximately 50 pages, then input banners manually 1 by 1 and edit start time, URL, match name manually for each language and website, then I was also asked to do it for both B2B and B2C which when I asked noone could actually explain to me how to do. I expressed concerns over heavy workload and lack of training as at same time I was expected to do about 60 odds boosts per day which took me about 5 hours or so. When I asked for help with the banners an almost page long essay was written by my manager was written about why I should be given no help in the group chat. Doing the banners in the way I was initially taught and constantly being pushed about them felt like extreme devaluing mental torture the likes of which I have never ever felt, it reminded me a lot of the movie clockwork orange when some people were taken to the cinema and needles used to keep their eyes open. There was also another new member of the team who would often be referred to as 's-word' by the manager and colleagues which I didn't find nice. Also I found derogatory comments were being sent about me by manager from a very early stage. I didn't feel comfortable knowing both me and colleagues were being referred to as faeces. I stand by the work I did with the boosts and worked very hard for the company and am good at doing odds.
It all ended with a morning meeting where the manager screaming f words and s words and screaming directly at me. I told her following very calmly: 'Please don't swear', 'please don't scream' and 'please don't send derogatory comments about me' and that it was not conducive to a good working environment or to work getting done well. Shortly after this, she burst into tears crying and ran out of the office. Then she had a meeting with HR and I was fired immediately. I would like really like to know what was actually said to HR because I don't feel saying: 'Please don't swear', 'please don't scream' and 'please don't send derogatory comments about me' in a calm way constitute grounds for dismissal. I also feel it was unprofessional conduct but there were many more of these from managers side: calling sick, potty mouth swearing, no knowledge of workflows, manipulation of colleagues by crying, screaming, lateness, 2 and a half hour lunch breaks, emotional instability, probably telling long stories to HR. Anyway, I don't view saying: 'Please don't swear', 'please don't scream' and 'please don't send derogatory comments about me' in a calm way grounds for immediate dismissal. If there is video footage of the meeting I suggest it be reviewed to verify consistency with what was actually told to HR. I'm not saying the state of emotional instability was her fault, but there were clear indicators of quite extreme emotional instability.
