How flexible is your schedule working at BetterUp?

      BetterUp reviews

Challenging in the best way, great workplace

      Business Outlook

      Pros

High achieving (but friendly, collaborative) environment, great for driven professionals looking to uplevel their skills and career, flexible work schedule allows me to prioritize school pick ups and personal life, company wide summer and winter breaks every year plus "inner work" days off and volunteer days, career opportunities for advancement (at least in my dept.), You'll work with some of the most capable, driven, kind individuals. I've been here for 3+ years and have no intention to leave, I like the work I do and the team I work with.

      Cons

High achieving, high performance culture isn't for everyone (clearly). If you're looking to coast, this is not the place for you. There are pockets in the org with bad managers or poor leaders, and I agree they should be weeded out ASAP because they're clearly bringing down the majority of the org which is filled with decent people who want to do the right thing and do good work. I wish they had a 401k match.

NOT worth it unless you are a brand NEW coach

      Pros

      Flexible work schedule Nice clients

      Cons

Low Pay: Low compensation, particularly for coaches who invest a lot of time and effort into their work. Long Long Unpaid Onboarding: Unpaid onboarding can be frustrating and financially burdensome. Coaches should be compensated fairly for their time and contributions. Diluted Coaching: You will need to coach F/T to make ends meat.

Meaningful work but zero raises and no benefits

      Business Outlook

      Pros

      • Flexible scheduling • Meaningful work with clients who genuinely benefit from coaching • Access to a large client base you wouldn't build overnight on your own

      Cons

Where do I begin. BetterUp brought in $214 million in revenue in 2024. Approximately 4,000 coaches make that number possible. And yet: • Zero raises — not for years of service, not for new certifications, not ever. • Zero cost-of-living adjustments. The world got more expensive. Our pay didn't move. • Zero benefits. No healthcare, no PTO, nothing. • Uncompensated work — prep time, follow-up, and certain session types are simply not paid. • A bonus structure that borders on demoralizing. I hit performance markers for five consecutive months. In the sixth month — the one where the bonus is actually paid — I fell just below the threshold. This is not an isolated story among coaches. • No live human to speak with. Leadership is completely unreachable. Everything goes through a support ticket system. • A culture of fear. Coaches do not feel safe raising concerns for fear of losing their contracts. That is not a healthy professional environment — it's especially ironic for a company selling psychological safety to the world. ──────────────────────────

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Make your own schedule, decent flow of clients, easy platform to use, education offered.

      Cons

Low salary, not paid for time to complete notes, reading members (clients) intake assessments, communication between sessions or other administrative tasks. You’re on your own and things have seemed very disorganized and inconsistent. Coaches are evaluated on things outside of their control like members (clients) participation of number of sessions only for corporate clients and not direct to consumer clients which is where the big $$ is for them. Coaches are only paid a small fraction of the fees collected. No point of contact, advocate or advisor is provided for coaches other than a support email channel that goes to unknown parties and responses are usually a.i. generated. First 9 months very few members (clients) which seems to be a common complaint, there appears to be an algorithm that results in feast or famine with new members (clients)
