What's good and bad working for Corning

      Production associate
      Current employee
      Concord, NC

      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

First the people are great and they take time training and make sure you don't feel left behind. It's inside and climate controlled with a cafeteria open weekdays for breakfast and lunch. You get a whole entire week off every month giving you 12 opportunities for a trip, vacation, or time to do projects at home. Great benefits with good insurance, 401K, and even a pension. They want you to grow and advance your career and attempt corning if you have the ability and want to advance they are fully involve and will give you some advice and help. There's always overtime slots open so if you need extra cash or just like to work you can and it's not mandatory. Finally they pay goid.

      Cons

Everywhere you have worked has cons, and corning isn't any different and the number 1 con is probably the swing shift. Most people don't have any issues with it but everyone gets aggravated sometimes. It's a Dupont schedule so there are for shifts total and for example your schedule would be 4 nights then 3 days off, 3 days then 1 day off, 3 nights then 3 days off. and finishes with 4 days then 7 off we work from 6:45 to 6:45. Some people can't handle it and they find another job.

Strong benefits but challenging startup environment and long hours

      Prodction associate
      Current employee

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Great benefits: Day one health insurance, profit sharing, 401K and pension plan.

      Cons

This location is a startup venture and has lots of details to work out to become more efficient and reliable. Advancement opportunities are very slow. Construction and infrastructure improvements are still in progress. There are a lot of PPE requirements due to the complexity and hazards on the job. The 12.25 work hours with shifting two weeks on day and two weeks on nights is very hard on the mind and body.

      Decent work experience

      Pros

Fair, lots of opportunity to make good money, pension, 401k, union

Toxic work environment, check who you work with

      Anonymous employee
      Current employee
      Charlotte, NC
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Hybrid work schedule, nice office coffee bar, good company reputation, big company, pension

      Cons

      1. IT hardware outdated, software and technology not as good as you may think 2. Office politics, new employee and young professional get singled out. You can't expect to be treated with respect, especially when dealing with senior employees who have tenure with the company. Favoritism and double standards are common. You just can't trust anyone, don't give out any personal information. Slurs cycle around pretty quickly. 3. Different teams and department go against each other, no cooperation or coordination, never ready for tasks. People do their job wrong and create a mass for others. But they don't care. Don't expect team members to look out for each other, they may stab your back! 4. New ideas and positive changes not welcomed. Many conversations are one-way. You just have to listen and agree (or keep your mouth shut) 5. There's diversity of course but seems no inclusion. 6. Lower than average 401k match, no higher education incentive, cannot accrual PTO, no overtime pay. 7. If you are the favored one, that's good! You'll like this place.
