What is the hiring process like at Equitable Advisors?

      Equitable Advisors reviews

      Nothing Spectacular

      Financial advisor
      Former employee
      Indianapolis, IN
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Most fellow coworkers put on the fake smile and brought some enthusiasm to the working environment.

      Cons

Door-to-door, cold calling, financial consultation sales. They make you target your friends and family. An assignment during the onboarding process was to gather 100+ contacts to submit to management for their personal records, all of which still receive junk mail and sales pamphlets.

      2

Highly dependent on management I wouldn’t risk it.

      Financial advisor
      Former employee
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

-there are good people passionate about helping you succeed. -decent training -pays for licensing process -if you have a good mentor figure you can succeed -the established advisors (not managers) are very nice

      Cons

-there are managers that are completely absent and pretty much throw you to the wolves -doesn’t pay you salary while licensing -full commission salary is pushed on new hires -some offices have almost no people in them and end up being soul-less and depressing to be in. -managers get compensated for the people they bring in so they have a tendency to exaggerate things and be a bit misleading during the hiring process.

      New Employee

      Financial advisor
      Current contractor
      Bala Cynwyd, PA
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Leadership among the VPs has been very helpful. The interview process was straight forward. Clear that everyone around you wants to succeed.

      Cons

Comp structure is not straight forward. Need to bring in clients to be contracted.

      Entry Financial Advisor review

      Financial advisor
      Former employee
      Minneapolis, MN
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Easy to get in the door with little experience

      Cons

poor compensation work life balance no paid training for exams or compensation until after all exams are passed which takes months

      1

Unfortunate and not a place I enjoyed

      Financial advisor
      Former contractor
      San Francisco, CA
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Some freedom with schedule and workload.

      Cons

The pay was terrible. After working there for 6 months I had not been paid properly by the company. During the interviewing process I was told many things about how the position would work and when I started working for the company that is not how it was at all. For example I was told that they value independence and a "go getter attitude". However once I started I was told I was unable to do anything without a Senior work partner who then took part of any commission I could make. I could continue with the other issues with this company.

Hiring process does not provide all expenses you are responsible for

      Financial advisor
      Former employee
      Atlanta, GA
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

The firm is competitive within the annuity and insurance products. Salesforce is efficient and robust.

      Cons

This employer does not provide you with ANY information about costs that you are ultimately responsible for (Real Estate charge for office space-cube, Errors and Omissions Premium payment, etc.) These expenses are deducted from your production, therefore you take home pay is reduced significantly specially as you are building a book. Management did not disclosure these expenses during the hiring process. Clearly their purpose is to get you in the door without being transparent.

      1

      Not a good company

      Wealth management associate
      Former employee
      Troy, MI
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Easy to apply and easy to get a sponsorship

      Cons

Bad leadership Bad management Bad company

      1

      Steer clear

      Advisor
      Former employee
      Secaucus, NJ
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Freedom to do what you want to do to grow your business

      Cons

Licensing process is clunky and the management seems like a pyramid scheme

      1

      Lots of freedom

      Financial advisor
      Former employee
      Pittsburgh, PA
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Teach you how to sell and you can make an impact on people’s future and a good living

      Cons

They don’t care if you fail, clients get moved up to hiring manager and assets stay with equitable.

Fantastic support in a challenging field

      Financial advisor
      Current employee
      Indianapolis, IN
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

The education, resources, and support provided provided by leadership at the branch level (regional: OH and IN) and district level (local: Carmel Office) are excellent. If you want the best shot at succeeding in this career you'll be hard-pressed to find a better firm and a better team to do it with.

      Cons

The statistics tell a story: As many as 9 in 10 people who become financial advisors are have left the career within their first three years. Its a challenging career path, period. But there are companies with better than average development and retention rates and Equitable is one of them for good reason.
